Hollywood's influence reached every corner of the world and set expectations for many showcasing Southern CA.

I remember taking a college class learning the film Grapes of Wrath was shown in Russia to the populace exemplifying dire conditions of Depression Poor in America...

It had the opposite effect in that the poorest of poor had cobbled together automobiles...

When I visited the Philippines as a Navy type, the most commons question people asked me was, "Have you been to Hollywood?"

I suppose the laugh-track in sitcoms are a throw back to the live studio audience days. I could certainly live without them covering up the dialogue. I dont need to be prompted.

I don't generally watch sitcoms, but I've found the background music that's present in most tv shows these days tends to obscure the dialog, at least to me. Well that and actors who mumble their parts.
Don't have any trouble making out news programs, etc.

I don't have any problem hearing the commercials either... even from another room.

I know folks that live in Siler City and for me, it was a short cut to from Raleigh to Charlotte, Atlanta and cities beyond.

I do not know this personally but, I've heard a bunch of times from a bunch of folks, Aunt Bea was a real squirrel. Very much a lock in hermit that would only come out at night.

I'm just spreading rumors here but, I always thought Aunt Bea was a tight a** anyway, I'm more an Ottis kinda guy. And I meant the Darlings, not the Dillards.
...

I have read/heard that "Aunt Bea" was kinda a hermit, but it was hard to tell if it was because she wanted to be a hermit, or was forced into it. People would knock on her door at all hours, especially people who had too much to drink late at night. She also had a bunch of cats if I remember right.

Later,
Dan

My sister is about 12 years older than me and before I was born my sister saw aunt Bea at the airport smoking a cigarette. That just destroyed a little girls image of her.

Sounds like Aunt Bea did the one worse thing that a human being can do to another person: Not live up to that persons expectations.

Truer words were never spoken... But, I believe that's what love is; failing, yet still being accepted.

I agree; however, as adults, especially those of us who are parents or celebrities who serve as role models, we owe a certain moral allegiance to those who look up to us. I firmly believe this, and try to live by it. In my own personal experience, I gave up smoking cigarettes...cold turkey...because I was convinced that I could not be the man, the father and the Christian I wanted to be and still smoke cigarettes. Besides...did you ever try to convince your kids that smoking was bad while lighting up a Winston?

Mom did, every time she lit up an L&M. Right up until it killed her.

Do as i say, not as i do!
