D-Con

I saw a mouse in the garage today, I just thought I would brag a bit because I still have two wedges of D-Con left lol. One will go in the garage, the other in the barn. Stuff has been in the closet for 5 or 6 years. Don稚 really have issues with mice at the house I bought. View attachment 681093

Find it next to your bottle of DDT did ya?

I used to use it in my attic until I found out about accidental pet and wildlife poisonings. I have used traps for about 20 years now. Works great and targets well.

I've got 6 cats. I don't have a problem with mice.

When I had chickens I didn’t see a mouse in the barns, haven’t had chickens in a few years and saw a mouse in my garage the other day. First time since I bought the place 6 years ago, has a mouse been spotted in the garage or house. I have put snap traps in the barn with peanut butter but caught only baby moles, never have caught a mouse there. A 5 gal bucket caught two mice lol.

Yes and no where near as effectivel I had this old house cleared of mice with it then the change came. I still have the new blocks spread around and mice in the house.

I wouldn't want dead mice in the house. It would be better to spring trap them so you can dispose of them.

That was another reason we gave up d-con... I put some in the attic after we heard the mice running across the ceiling. We have a nice bench on the side of our dining room where we put our shoes on every morning. About 3 days after the d-con was put in the attic, I was sitting on that bench and smelled death. Apparently, a mouse or two fell down inside the wall right behind the bench. It took 2 weeks for the smell to go away. :p

D-Con used to use an anti-coagulant. Newer formula uses bromethalin. It works faster and is promoted to reduce threat to what find those corpses in corners.

I use snap traps with black oil sunflower seeds. No ants, no mold, no pets. Agree that a body count beats a bad smell.

btw, rat-size snaps traps work as well with the same bait for chips and squirrels that seek to nest in our barns and vehicles.

My traps are clustered and tied by lanyards to reduce crawl-offs and trap loss if something walks off with my catch in one.

My secret is to ignore the bait pan and fling seeds into the back of the trap. This forces mice to crawl onto the pan to reach the bait and gets the smaller ones better.

Keep setting in any place where mice have been caught. Past trips to your set will be highways to pests that'll follow each others scent to it.

Don't think that a dead mouse in a trap will discourage another from getting caught in one mere inches away. I often get doubles.

The real decon dehyrated them, no sstink to speak of, slight musty odor, just enough to tell it is a mouse, and gone in a day.
