The only way I'm familiar with tracking is with work using UPS. When a tracking number is created for shipment of a part, the part is invoiced out and the tracking number is linked with the invoice number. When UPS picks up the deliveries, it seems to be loaded for tracking online. Depending on when the order is going out. UPS generally delivers by 10AM and picks up at 4PM. Any orders called in after 2PM may not go out that day (unelss its next day or second day air), but you're generally guaranteed to have the tracking info no later than a day. Keep in mind, we don't do online sales / business to the general public, so perhaps it's easier on our end, that said, haven't had to do shipping lables for the last 15 years LOL
Until the shipper actually picks up the part with the associated tracking lable, not sure how they can say it's been shipped because the information should be coming from the shipping company, not the seller.

I recall at work back in the day when UPS came at 10, Fedex came at 1 and USPS came at 3. It was almost like clockwork, but then something changed. I remember fedex coming early one day and I mentioned that I just set out a box to be picked up. The drivers response was that he only dropped off. The dawn of instant gratification was upon us and we started getting deliveries at whatever time.
I cannot complain since I am floored most of the time at how well the shippers have performed in these COVID times when their workload has exploded. That said, I have to scratch my head when I get a $25 free shipment item delivered in a sedan at home just so it could meet the expected delivery time and I was not in a hurry for it. At this time of year we are getting shipments after dark just so they can keep up. I am sure it will all get sorted out in time but I would not mind going back to UPS comes at 10, Fedex comes at 1 and USPS comes at 3. I plan ahead and NEVER pay for next day delivery. Just my 2 pennies.

Amazon's prices are not great but they are usually still cheaper than where I live. The free to door delivery is what interests me since I have no decent stores close. My ordering keeps a lot of people employed.

Working in the HVAC industry, depending on the part and the situation and the customer (particuarly commercial), next or second day air is a way of life.
Thing people don't understand is that the part may be under warranty, but per the manufacturers written warranty policy, freight is never covered.
Had a $50 part (not big or heavy at all) that I had to have shipped for a school system recently (didn't find the problem until late afternoon). To ship next day air from 400 miles away was around $165.
Now, what really peeves me off is when you order a next day air part from a manufacturer and their policy is parts don't ship out until the following business day. Why do you want to spend next day air when you get it in two days instead of 1?

^^^ good point about equipment repair in business and the need for next day. Items that are not urgent delivered next day at home at a premium is what I do not get.

I spent some time up there a long time ago when I was single. Was blown away driving north of Fairbanks (in the summer of course LOL). You don't know what BFE is until you live in Alaska:laughing:
Being in your shoes, I'd probably be greatful for all and any deliveries.
I say that with respect towards you as I decided agasint living there due to trying to get it all figured out on how I would actually do it.

Neither do I, but I live with it every day for work. If a company pays for next day air, they should expect it next day air, or I'd be highly upset. Where it gets trickey is when the order is called in and the time zone from where the part is shipping and how long it takes to process the order from the manufacturer.
Generally for larger parts such as compressors or heat exchangers, it's generally a 1-3 lead time for common carrier.
Delivery is big business and employs a lot of people. My yearly cost is $119 that I am willing pay.
