I have none of the above though, including bolt cutters. What I do have is a BFH, so everything looks like a nail to me.

I already want one of those, but can't justify the price. In my younger days I could just stand on the ground with my .308 using a sapling for support, the tree for a backstop and that lock would be scrap metal. (I once harvested a hornet's nest out of a tree top 50 feet up that way... two shots cut the limb and down it came.) Now though I'd miss the lock AND the tree, sending the round sailing into the next county. not a good plan when there are roads and houses two miles away in the line of fire... and the next county is in Canada.

Tree stands of all types are popular in the south. I am setting in a fairly nice box stand as I type this watching a light rain but no deer. When I was younger I used climbing stands but as I have gotten older I like a roof and sides.

My stand is a 4' x 8' platform ~10' above ground. Ropes around the perimeter hold 'camo cloth' and one kinda climbs thru' them to get onto it. There's plenty of room for two hunters, or to fall out of a chair w/o falling out of it, or as a good place to hide from the World and take a nap while bird watching in mild weather.
It's in the far corner of my ten and their spots & shots are limited to three short lanes as deer walk the two-track around the pond. Max range to spot or shoot is <10 yd and all shots are angled 25-30 or so deg below horizontal.
It's also 250 yds from the house and not visible from very far away. What sucks is seeing a neighbor's blind 100yd beyond that from my living room. Last year she told me not to hunt my own stand so her boyfriend from out of town's 's friends from out of town can hunt safely.
Over 30 ac of open field surrounded by woods there is behind the big red pine they set up next to. Gee, of their 60ac you'd think they could set up with a shot in another direction than covering the ten or so ac towards my yard, esp when they're obviously looking to shoot deer crossing between mine and theirs. One of those paths is somewhat below and in line with my stand. I asked her about their stand on fb and heard only crickets.

In crash safety we were told that automobile 'crush zones' are designed to 'delay the rate of acceleration' and thus ameliorate the force of impact.
If you go to brush something off your shoulder and it's the forest floor, you might better just come back another day to hunt (or snooze) .. if you can still walk.

Snoozing and some deer stands do not mix. Years ago, it was early afternoon and I was in a lean to ladder stand. I kept nodding off and decided to climb down and go one hill over from where I was hunting and take a power nap. When I woke up it was pitch black and for a brief moment I had no idea where I was. It took a little bit feeing around trees to find my gun.
Now I only hunt from box stands or ground blinds.
