My Kobalt was made in the USA, J H Williams was the manufacture in Columbus, Georgia. I bought it in 2001

But, you need to subtract 30% from the clean dry torque value to prevent fatigue or outright snapping the bolt off. If you don't believe me, just google wet torque vs dry torque. Also, read the article I linked above.

The generally acceptable guidance is only lube if specified in the technical manual.
Overtightened bolts will not cause fatigue.fatigue is caused by repeat loading of the bolt. You can snap a bolt by overtightening.

I have a Warren and Brown beam type 3/8 torque wrench. Gives visual and audible indication. Used it for years on VW engine work. Just have to remember to reset the clicker every time. Also have a 1/4 drive in/lb beam type for auto trans work and a cheapo ratchet 1/2 for domestic engines and such. Oh so glad I don't have to do that stuff anymore.

In continuing my research I read something interesting about the Harbor Freight ICON brand torque wrench yes it has a lifetime warranty but the warranty is only valid if you have the wrench calibrated every 90 days .... right out of the owners manual . That one is off y list

I purchased a Tekton torque wrench very happy with it.

Exactly the same as the Pittsburg (HF) wrench, right down to the plastic case. Lots less at HF. Problem with cheap wrenches is, they only indicate in one direction.... right. Not left.
I own the Tekton trust me NOT the same as harbor freight ..I shopped both before I bought.

Check out Tekton. It’s a family owned business from Michigan that imports 75% of their tools from Taiwan, 20% are made in USA, and 3% from China.

I did a lot of research and found that Tekton tools hits the sweet spot between price and quality. And all their tools have a lifetime warranty.

I have their 1/2in torque wrench which I really like.

My current favorite tool is Tekton’s 18in 3/8in non-quick release ratchet. It provides great reach and leverage and its slim design fits well into tight spaces.

I’m sure that everyone knows to twist the torque setting (post beam and pre-electronic) back close to zero before storing ., You should not set the torque to 150 for example and just put the tool away, crank it down before storage.
