Starlink does not have data caps but they might in the future but I think this will be use for people abusing the network. If Starlink put in data caps that prevented people from streaming videos, they will drastically reduce their market.

There will have to be a way to control the abusers. Hopefully that will be possible without data caps on legitimate customers.

Q. Will there be data caps?

A. Starlink team in November 2020: "At this time, the Starlink beta service does not have data caps" followed by "So we really don't want to implement restrictive data caps like people have encountered with satellite internet in the past. Right now we're still trying to figure a lot of stuff out--we might have to do something in the future to prevent abuse and just ensure that everyone else gets quality service."

ill just wait until its been out and in heavy use before i fully decide. i bought into the hughes net too early. it originally had great speed and reliability, than it kept degrading as more people signed up. then it got unusable.

If your current setup is adequate then waiting is plausible. FYI the official name of the public beta test is "Better Than Nothing". :)

If Starlink doesn't seem worth it to you now, by all means pass. It means I am one slot closer.:)

Whether Starlink funds a trip to Mars, or not, isn't really the issue for me. "Can I get work done remotely?" is the issue for me.

I don't really have a dog in this fight since we have cable here (and have for about 8yr), but between the upfront cost and the rather steep monthly rate I'd hold off until I knew this actually worked and wasn't just more vaporware (as well as the price coming down to something that could remotely be called affordable). What's the real-world latency on this? If you're doing remote work or trying to use VOIP that's a lot more important than speed.

they say latency WILL be 20-40 in the next few months. right now its between 40 and 60 according to the email i received. im at 9 now. and thats too long. and musk hopes for 12,000 satellites to complete system. 12,000 OMG. like theres not enough junk up there right now

PING ms 39
DOWNLOAD Mbps 25.22
UPLOAD Mbps 1.77

That's what I just got for my DSL. It's fine for me for just goofing around at places like this. The guy is just too creepy for me to sign on there even if they gave me the system. .

I'm still on the Mobley plan with the SIM card in a Netgear 4GLTE modem for a whopping $23 a month.

ping 39

Why would I change a thing?

I'm about the same situation as John Mc and Ponytug. Out internet is very slow and there is nothing else available except Hughsnet and people I know that have it are not happy. We have limited cell service and can only get service if we go up the hill or use a booster. My daughter works from home and needs internet and my granddaughter is doing school work over the internet , sometimes it works ok most of the time it is challenging for them.
