Did I Make a Mistake?

I was told the other day by my local Mahindra service tech that these tanks are on back order and have been. They ARE being redesigned and will be mounted with bands.

ETA was unknown.

That’s interesting...banding the tank to something (removable plate or tractor itself) was one of many ideas I and other posters brain stormed (exceptional ideas) on this forum to resolve this issue. The 2600 series has been out for sometime thus why the slow response in fixing this issue? It’s not brain surgery so I’ll assume it’s profit motive (greed).

Thanks,

Chris

If you've read the Mahindra manuals, we'd be blessed indeed if they took some of our suggestions and used full sentences and proper english.

****, maybe they will take some of the diagrams so you can actually see what they are talking about

Glad to hear you're at least getting something going, I've loved my Mahindra, but parts can be slow and some things aren't designed the best for access or maintenance. But I see just as many issues on the other brands sections

Totally agree with the statement "But I see just as many issues on the other brands sections". I researched all the brands before buying and found issues with each and every manufacture on various forums. Complaints ranged from serious malfunctions to simple fixes. In several case I found the manufactures were not stepping up and resolving issues. Today's manufacture seems to built it and leave it to the consumer to take the financial hit of repairs which in many cases should have been resolved with better R&D. Example; owned a Ford focus with the "new" automatic transmission. The car would shake and rattle when shifting gears. Took it to the dealer who insisted it was normal for that transmission. I knew the transmission had seal failures allowing fluid to enter the clutch area causing the condition. Ford finally started a buy back program. The buy back is rather a joke as Ford still made money on the vehicles. In essence; Ford took advantage of people who probably could barely afford a car by giving them a poor design which resulted not only in huge repair bills, after the warranty period, but loss of use during the repair. Seems like the majority is financing the life style of the few...

Thanks,

Chris

We also need to take into consideration that the Internet is where people will rant, vent, rage and whatever. So we end seeing much more negative posts than we see positives.

I never write positive reviews. Why? Its my expectations that they do their job correctly and produce a product that lasts without issues after taking my hard earned money.

I don't need to pat them on the back because they happened to produce something that worked.

This is true however I do leave positive reviews if I have had a reasonable experience. Most don't voice an opinion unless they had a negative experience. I tend to read reviews with some skepticism and mainly look for tends. Most of the time the trends, if similar, tell the story.

Thanks,

Chris

I totally agree with this - we're paying reasonable money so we should receive a reasonable product which is suitable and usable for the marketed purpose.

I wasn't actually speaking about reviews but more about forum posts, facebook posts, etc. I honestly don't even read reviews. Most is just non sense or lack of the ability to use and understand the product.

Some people will go to the dealer with this arrogant attitude demanding they must fix their product under warranty, often issues caused by their own fault, and then they don't like what they hear and come complain on forums. Of course, this will leave the negative feedback of the dealer/product but we don't hear the other side of the story either.

Others come asking for advice on forums and we never get to hear what happened in the end. Most of the cases the dealer just did what he needed to do, otherwise I'm sure we would hear another complain.

That being said, we do get some positive posts every once in a while. Which is very nice to hear. A nice change over the negative stuff.

I'm probably not explaining my self right. It makes a lot more sense in my brain.

"It didn't take long to have that new tank in my hands either"

A Mahindra made tank?.
Yah think?
From India ??

So your inference means what?
There is a JD line also made in India. What's your inference there?
Also, you have limited knowledge about Mahindra as if you didn't, you'd know the op's product is made in South Korea by Tym and not in India

To the op:
As I see it, you have two choices. You can take this tractor back and ask them to order a new Mahindra 2638 for you (or whatever number it is). Hopefully the mount problem has been rectified on the newer model.
2. Fabricate the fault out of the tractor yourself if indeed the mounting on the newer model is the same. The strap idea I feel gives the most credence as the original mounting idea is of poor engineering.
To do what they did originally, the tank would have had to be molded with bolsters at the fix points to alleviate any torque or stress cracks.

Yeah, I agree, forum reviews are different than reviews on a company website.

If you read my post just a little more carefully, you may note the question marks!

Questions based on what? My answer to you is, you're just covering yourself and you know it.

I already gave my answers to the op.

It's still early in your complaint so I would give the dealer a chance to make it right. But make certain he knows you're not happy about having a tractor that can't be used. Ask him what he intends to do about it right now--Not 3+ months from now. Did you pay cash or making payment?

Leaking fuel certainly is a safety issue. See if there was a recall on the model line. If there was, the dealer could be in deep do-do for selling it. If there wasn't, call the Consumer Safety Commission. They can have the entire model line(s) with that tank recalled or have the manufacturer replace the tank with a new design. I had to do that with a new Murray Lawn Tractor I bought which developed a leaking gas tank within a couple of months. It didn't take long to have the new tank in my hands either.

Ok - so first; please be civil and agree to disagree (not directed at any one person) - not a big issue and I don't want to cause any upheavals within the forums.

For an update - the dealership is working on obtaining a tank. Once I have it on hand I plan on using stainless steel bands to band the tank to the tractor rather than use the inserts on the tank itself. I haven't decided on whether to simply mount the tank directly to the tractor or make a plate and mount the tank to the plate. The plate idea would be easier in removal (I'd weld nuts to the plate and attach the plate to the tractor) however it would require a bit more time / fab work on my part.

Thanks,

Chris

You asked if you made a mistake. In reality, no one could genually answer your question mostly because no one knows how you're wired.
For some it would be a "mistake" to keep owning this tractor. For others it's just a "bump" in the road because they may have "skills".

You have a lot of good advice here.
What no one needs is when someone attempts to put "drama" into an already consternating situation for you such as throwing inference to "parts" availability" when they know schitt from shinola as to how available these parts are or where they are sourced from.. Like you really need that added to this headache.
For everyone's information, these parts for your tractor are coming from Houston Texas..
I ordered a part from my Mahindra dealer (front drive ring and pinion) and it took 2 days to get.

I hope all of this levels out for you to your satisfaction.

I hope so as well and is seems it will work itself out in the very near future as the selling dealer is really trying to help. The part is actually coming from a TYM dealer and not from the warehouse due to the fact there is no current ETA on the part. I have not confirmed the part is going through a redesign but one would hope that is the case.

Thanks,

Chris

ok. Let us know how you make out. I can get you a tank and mounting grommets if push comes to shove and have it sent to your dealer or directly to you..
Price quoted is $323 w pump and grommets and is a warranty item if tank has not been compromised with something like underbrush or branch contact.

Your dealer should have the same access.
I asked my dealer if there is an inherent problem w these gas tanks and he stated he has never heard of any and of the 10 Tym sourced tractors he has sold in the last two years such as your model run, not one has been brought back for this.

Why would you have to modify a new tractor? If you install the new tank, and it cracks in the future, are they going to warranty it? Let them put it is, keep all paper work and time lost for use. If you install it or modify it, and it catches fire, who will have to pay for it? If I buy a new truck with warranty, they will fix it or get it back. There are a lot of tractor brands.
