It's the third replacement, third ordered but yet to be received replacement switch of the second ordered, first received replacement switch which failed but was fixed. Hopefully it isn't wrong like the first ordered, second received replacement switch, ie. On Off On rather than On On.

I would like to put in a wood stove but there isn't any room for it at this point. Maybe later when I get some outbuildings built to store some of the bigger stuff in. The main shop area is roughly 30 ft. deep by 40 to 50 ft. wide with 2 uninsulated garage doors, which makes no sense to me as to why they put uninsulated doors in a well insulated building, probably saved $100 on the cost of the doors. Attached to that is 2 rooms, roughly 15 ft. square, one is winter storage for lawn mower and such, the other I am setting up as a loading room and storage for smaller stuff. I did actually get a ceiling heater working in that room a couple weeks ago so I now have a place to warm up when needed.

Your place is bigger but is there a upstairs, my shop is 26x36 deep with up stairs, wife had that half full before the garage was completely closed in. Nothing is insulated it's just a shelter out of the weather but before heat it was cold out there in there, now not so bad and does keep the snow off the work area just incase I have some work that has to be done, like oil changes and drilling holes........

I finally sold my 30yr old Craftsman floor standing DP. Think it was a 15in 1hp. The bearings were going out on it and I was sick and tired of messing with the belts and the lack of portability. I treated myself this summer with a new Nova Voyager 18in variable speed DP. Mounted on a mobile base, built a lower cabinet that easily slides off and an adjustable drill press table w/fences and stops. Sorry for the sideways thumbnail.

Yup Porta Cable with 1/2" chuck, its about a 7 year old Christmas present.
Looks like you have a nice drill press set up with a fancy sliding drill press guide for making cribbage boards and no more messing with pulley speeds, is that a 1/2' chuck?

Yes single phase 120v, so the capacitor is something that cant be adjusted? Must be that hump thing on the outside of motor.........

Dont forget pic of sensor repair, this is diffidently over my head but interesting. Must be a strong magnet to stay on the chuck.

Yes, the cover on the side of the motor contains the start capacitor. They aren't repairable, the electrolyte in them dries out over time and they loose their capacitance. It is usually connected with a couple of push on terminals will have the value and voltage on it, either take it to a local motor repair shop or get a replacement off Amazon or Ebay. Make sure and get the same capacitance, such as 420ｵF and voltage.
It should look something like this.



The sensor problem turned out to be something I don't understand, but it worked.
It seems that the magnet that comes with the tach kit has to have a certain side facing the sensor. When I held the new sensor next to the magnet on the pulley, it wouldn't work either. Hmmmm. So I tried the new magnet by sticking it on the chuck and running it and with one side facing the sensor it worked, and when flipped over it wouldn't. That is very strange. Sooooo, I pulled the pulley off, popped the magnet off and hot glued it on with the other side facing the sensor. Put it all back together and it works like it should.
The instructions with the kit don't mention that a certain side, or pole must be facing the sensor.

Variable speed is the way to go.

I put my drill on casters too, makes it easy to move to sweep up around it, or move it where I want it.

Darn I was hoping you'd say that theres a screw that needs to be adjusted and my drill press will work fine.
Did the instruction that came with the speed sensor say which side to place the manet, if not how would one know unless the directions are in Chinese......

Yes, a 1/32 to 1/2in beautifully smooth Llambrich chuck! Highly recommend. Drilling is now fun again. No guessing on speeds for different bit and material types. Just select them on the touchscreen menu. Precision electronic depth stop and auto on/off as well...

Wow thats quite the drill press, that nickel test was impressive and if someone was going to do lot of drilling this looks like a very good choice...... NOVA Voyager DVR Variable Speed Drill Press Features and Overview - YouTube

But its a little out of my price range when only drilling few times a year, but then again regular drill press prices can be pricy to with a wide range to pick from.

Capacitors are about $10 (+/- $5) and a 2 minute fix, I wouldn't worry about it too much...

Front of garage has boards diagonally because of two doors that are close together, theres no way to have 2x6s to go diagonally between them, I figure that it adds strength against wind, and along the sides I have 2x6s going diagonally between studs.
