Reading all the replys has me glad to have my well 65 ft deep with the pump hung at 55 feet. 20+ gpm no minerals, and crystal clear

That's really good. Water here in the Blue Ridge is everywhere... springs, creeks, runs, etc. Well water is hit and miss. When we had our cabin up at 3,000ft, we had great water at 450ft; the two neighbors near me had nothing but 700ft empty holes. :confused3:
Just had my first experience with drilling a new water well. Pretty amazing piece of equipment to watch. Took about 12 hours to hit 620 ft. According to my driller we have right at 4 gal/minute replenish rate, a 570ft head of water with the pump sitting at 585; this gives us an 800 gal reservoir in the well. 4 gal/min doesn't sound like a lot, but with reserve we should have more than enough for two people. We have a spring house as well on the property, but I don't have power to it yet.
We went a total of 610 ft. Well head is at 35ft, and pump set at 585 ft. With a 6inch casing this gives us about 800 gallons reserve at 3gpm replenish rate. More than adequate for a 4 bedroom/bath home. We put in a 30 amp 2 pole breaker for a new 220 volt Grundfos pump. I ran a line to a yard hydrant near the shop (250ft away) and a T to the house (about 100ft). Also put in a yard hydrant 6 ft from the well head for future use. All water lines are 1 inch blue poly. The entire process ran right at 12K finished including electric.
How long does it take them to drill through 410' of granite?
Here they went 760' and 4" casing to 460'. Mostly sand and clay took about 12 hours of actual drilling.
Finally getting in our new 400amp service from the road. The old line and pole near the house will come out. Also was finally able to get the old moonshine tanks out of the woods to the burn pile.
Direct cable burial electric service is allowed?
Yes... Short story the house system was 60 amps, the existing overhead wire was under rated for new 200 amp service, and the pole near the house was like 80 years old. So we made a deal to direct bury and I pay the upcharge. Got a new 400 amp service and new transformer being put in behind the shop.
