I’ve been involved in warranty assessment for a major manufacturer for years. The white material is aluminum corrosion due to water.

I’ve seen it more times than I can count.

Pretty sad situation, since that retired guy's rescue mission was caused by only one Winter season of use.

Efree gas..... definitely on my favourite products list....

On that note. Where can I buy 87 octane Non Ethanol. I know crappy tire, but I always have to go premium there.

I haven't found Lo Test Efree, but I haven't made it a priority mission.

I buy Costco HiTest. Works well for my needs, and the incremental cost is minor, even on my budget.

There may be some debate about using high octane in 87 rated engines, but I'm totally comfortable with this as a (Much) Lesser Evil decision, for my machines.

Thanks! I forgot who typically had hi-test no ethanol besides CTC. Some chain did.

And here is a question for hot debate. Not mass debate though. lol

I hate the way my jerry cans get all expanded from expansion or collapsed. Will allowing them to vent, compromise your fuel octane?

I've been using Stabil 360 in all my small engines. It's supposed to help with ethanol, but the caveat is it stabilizes fuel for only 12 months, instead of 24 months for Stabil Storage.

Fuel treatments can slow down the oxidization of fuel but it can’t prevent the ethanol from absorbing water. Better than nothing though.

High octane fuel doesn’t hurt engines, only too low of octane causes damage. Contrary to what most people think, the higher the octane, the less volatile the gasoline. Too low of octane and it pre-ignites before the spark, particularly on higher compression engines.

Costco, Shell and Chevron are the only ones out here in the far west with no E gas but it’s only premium. Costco’s premium isn’t much more than the cheap stuff elsewhere at least.

You can find the good stuff here:

I have used 100 octane AvGas in all my seasonal equipment and small engines for decades. The only Caveat is that because it contains lead, it can’t be used with a Catalytic converter. It stores for years.

The power was restored today after an 8 day outage here in Salem, Oregon.
We ran our 7000 watt Champion for 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening.
Used the Bluetti 150 in-between as needed.
This kept the freezer and fridge cold and hot water heater hot (enough).
We would not need anything larger.
It came out to almost exactly 5 gallons per day of regular pump grade ethanol laced fuel stored since last summer.
No problems whatsoever.

Good to hear in field report of Bluetti...

Sounds like it is well built and perfect for keeping the quality of life things operational during an outage.

Thinking about you guys... last year my 80 year old neighbor sold and moved to Salem... wonder how Howard is getting along at 81...

What specific tasks did the Bluetti perform?

Actually, the power went out when I was in California with our bees in almond pollination.
Liz & I saw the storm coming so I told her to plug in the Bluetti and get it topped off.
Last summer, we had the foresight to buy a 700 watt microwave for just such an event and she was able to cook 3 meals a day with it powered by the Bluetti!
So with our wood heat, Bluetti, and all of our normal supplies, she did just fine until I returned on day 3.
With 1500 watt hours, the Bluetti could run the microwave for 2 solid hours on one charge.
But think about it; you normally run a microwave for one - three minutes max.
One charge would probably last for weeks.
Never the less, we charged it while the generator was running every other day just to stay ahead of things.
It runs the coffee maker just fine.
One evening we pugged in the stereo and a lamp on the kitchen table and played cards into the evening.
In all, we are glad the lights are back on, but we have no complaints; we were very comfortable.
Comfortable at an affordable price....
