What do you mean?

Diesel has never been viewed as a passenger-car fuel here, but even in Europe there is a real push to get diesel vehicles off the road.

Diesel Vehicles Face a Grim Future in Europe’s Cities - Yale E36

If you (or anybody you know shares the bills with you) maintain a modern diesel vehicle..... you already know how expensive they are to maintain long-term. Some people here can justify $100k CAD for a diesel pickup for personal use, but for most of us peasants it doesn't exist as a option. (Granted, there's more in the cost of the truck, than just the dzl markup.....).

Downtime on modern heavy roadgoing diesels is significant due to constant failures of complex emission systems. Heavy EV will be an easy sell for much of the short-haul market, not that far off in time.....

It seems to be from the seal between the engine and generator although I never bothered to try to figure it out. Now I'm more curious. When I'm the cottage later this week, I'll clean the engine and see if I can find the leak.

Many cleaners will work well...... one of my favourites (less toxic) is Simple Green on engine-duty.

I have Simple Green there. Thanks, I'll try it.

Has anyone thought of the consequences of plugging in 20~40 million + EV cars & trucks every day because we regulated fossil fuels out of existence.
Grid goes down then what? Cars not fully charged so you can’t even get out of Dodge!
Government has one more tool to control their subjects.
The only ones moving will be those older non electronic diesel cars & trucks (that actually got good mileage) that people held on too as treasures.
We need to be smart and stay diversified like you would with financial investments.

I'm definitely not a fanboy of what I posted at the top of this page :)..... just like to keep an eye on what's coming over the horizon........

I plan to put my 3930 in my Will.

Rambling back to generators specifically........ I was made aware of at least one large displacement diesel generator (IIRC, it was two of them) that recently self-destructed @ low hours.

Could have been mechanical, but relying on highly complex modern diesels that are internet connected reminds me of that T guy, that lived near a pond.

I plan to put my personal generators in my Will. :)

Back on the generator topic... We had a couple multi day outages here this winter and I was starting to think the old old Emerald was finally wearing out, I just couldn’t get it to stay stable for any length of time.

Eventually I determined this electric heat thermostat was the cause. It’s “energy efficient” because it pulses when it’s nearing the set point. So 10 amps at 240V on for 5 seconds and off for 20 seconds. Wreaks havoc on a mechanical governor.

Too much tech for the olde girl !

Thanks for posting that one CM..... I'm sure you won't be the last one to encounter that head-scratcher.....

Timing was just right to make me think it was a fridge or freezer not able to start. Pulled the plugs for all the fridges, freezers and dehumidifiers and it was still there.

Unplugged all the UPS’s and still there.

Wasn’t until I turned the heat up in my shop office that it went away as the thermostat went into full heat mode and stopped pulsing.

How would an electric heater pulsing have anything to do with efficiency?
