Wife said what?!?!

I was married for 25 years, raised kid etc etc, all basic stuff, nothing special.

I've been single now as long as i was married. Being single is a lot cheaper.

I didn't say better....or worse.....just cheaper.

But.......you have to do your own laundry!

Good idea to start (with you don't already), recording everything you spend money on. When I lost my good paying job a while back, I had to learn how to live on less. It's amazing, to see where the money goes! Needs vs wants. I have way more tools than most people would ever want! Tools I have never used, but keep them handy, just in case I need them. I sold them off first.

I'd sell my truck before I would sell my tractor! There is always somebody that I could get to haul something home for me. I'd would just have to learn to wait and be patient!

Good luck!

You were smart to post here. You might not get the response you wish to hear over in the JD or Kubota forums.

I always did extra work when I was employed. Never felt comfortable depending on others. Finally just walked out the door and used my tractors more and made triple what I got before. Got a couple helpers and more equipment. You can do it.
Now I still like tractors so I am restoring a Massey crawler.
I restored a Ford industrial 445a back in 2016 because I wanted the scraper box machine on the property without too much investment. A friend called me up and I did a job for him and got all my money back.
So go for it.

I lost my job day after MLK holiday. Came back from a 3 day weekend and found a 1 on 1 meeting with the boss scheduled Tuesday morning. When I dialed in I was greeted by my boss and an HR rep who both told me due to a business decision related to COVID my position was being terminated.

Since then I have been looking at what cuts I can make and what we can sell to save a little here and there so I can try retiring early. Wife looks at list and asked what about the Massey, you can always sell it😲

right........lmao. I would rather get rid of the wife than the tractor ( hoping she never reads Tractorbynet) I would never say that out loud though.

Wow. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear about your job loss.
I've been laid off 3 times early in my career but they were always done face to face. If this ever happened today over the phone I would rip the people on the phone a new one.
IMO, most of these decisions are related to age, which is a shame.

What is the major expense people are worried about that keeps them from retiring?

I hear it's healthcare costs, but do not know for sure.

I wasn't a fan when Obamacare came along. But it did open up access to health insurance for early retirees with pre-existing conditions. It's not cheap though as competition in the Marketplace waned early on.
