I've heard of that before, and somebody here explained why. If somebody deposits money in your account they will receive a receipt with the account number; and can use that for nefarious activities later.

Its been awhile and thought I would update...
Appears some of the temporarily closed branches may never re-open... the new Wells Fargo branch that was 2 years old and opened with lots of fanfare and local media is still closed.
US Bank and Bank America let it be known fewer tellers are in the future.
My favorite Business Teller told me Friday that they were notified of planned severe downsizing by the end of the year.
She is one of those career tellers at the business window with many awards... at age 58 she is not sure what her options are.
I asked if the ATM will accept large amounts of coins from the apartment laundry machines and will online allow large deposits to be made and what about Cashier's Checks?
It was too early to say...
Not unusual in today's market to have a move in dollar amount as high $8,000 with first, last and security...
The outside ATM machines are notorious for criminal activity... as you are totally exposed and they are going to third party servicing... Bank personnel will no longer be loading the ATM or collecting the deposits or handling problems.
One thing I have learned is a temporary closure can be for more than 1 year...

^^^ No idea as to the cost, but look into card readers for the laundry. The use special cash cards that tenants can reload from wherever. ATM type machine takes CCs, DBs and paper money to reload cards on site or spit out new ones.

I too have DSL. I called cable just to ask how much to run a 2600 ft cable. I don't remember if they even would do it or how much, seems like thousands of dollars.
2600 ft twisted pair, trenched and buried...nada$=0$, cost me nothing!
I asked the installer why. He said because it was a "telephone line". Some federal rule/act/regulation requires the phone co to provide telephone service to rural areas.
When I told him i don't have a land line phone he said, yea, they are trying to separate those 2 situations so they can charge the DSL only customers for installation.

Yep... all kinds of access rules and backup required for telephone and kind of the Wild West for other providers.

I’m betting Ma Bell hopes all the copper goes away.
No option for DSL in Washington and the cost for Comcast was 15k where it was nominal at roll out but new county regs require it all under ground which costs.

3rd party ATM service has been the norm, at least around here, for decades. Brinks loads the money. Diebold services them.

I've noticed less access to my money lately too... with everything online and whatnot not normally an issue, my ATM daily cash limit went up, but what if I want to buy something with my money? I work 8-5 M-F, I've noticed bank hours at most branches anymore are 9-5 M-F and some on Saturday is only drive up service... I'm about to buy a used boat, went by two Wells Fargo locations trying to get cash out (people accepting personal checks for goods is no more...) yesterday and one has new hours posted finally showing that they are only open 9-5 M-F instead to 9-6 like normal and the usual 9-12 Saturday... they've been doing that for a while but hasn't been posted. So I went to another and they had a sign up of "drive up service only" with a 10+ car line... Apparently I get to wait til Monday and go at lunch...

Our banks have all open lobbies.... except for one credit union I use. They have appointments for lobby.
