I think I will always have a rotary extension... it's been in the house my entire life and dad bought it from the phone company when they said we could and I put the Customer Owned sticker on it 5-18-83
I remember in the late 70’s when touch-tone became available here. GTE back then. They charged an extra $1.00 a month for it. My dad refused to pay extra and bought a switchable tone/pulse handset from Radio Shack. I still have one like that somewhere and his original ~1950 rotary. The K handset must weight a pound.

Hahaha, yep. We'd click it to pulse to dial, then click it to tone for menus. Finally, I just put in a touch-tone phone in my bedroom and told my parents if the phone company ever fined/charged them, I'd pay it. They never did.

I've always carried a few $100 bills for the unexpected.

I've found that laying down at least three $100 bills as a deposit is sufficient to persuade anyone selling a tractor implement etc that I'm serious and will return with full payment as soon as possible. And I try to carry off some component worth nearly that much, to lock in the seller. To my surprise when I bought the 3-point backhoe, the seller said don't worry, he would accept a personal check for the last 25% of his asking price.
I don't know how seldom it is for items over a couple of thousand I still use a personal check for most of it,
only had one person really quibble about it. That was $2000 cash and $6000 check he really didn't want to do so;
I said you can take a picture of me holding the check and my drivers license if that check bounces it's a felony.
He agreed to it as I was putting my cash back in my pocket and telling him to have a good day.

This past week I traded in my 2015 RAM at a dealer on a 2019 RAM they didn't even fuss when I pulled out a check book and
said a check for the full amount when they asked how I wanted to put the deposit down.

Sometime in the 80s I walked into a Dodge dealer. Had been looking at some of their used cars on the lot ... none had prices, only what the monthly payments were. Asked the salesman ... he repeated the monthly price. I told him I wanted to know the full cash price. He repeated the monthly rate. Took a few more go-rounds before he finally stated they don't sell for cash, they only finance.

I left.

There's more of those now... it seems like every used car dealer is a "Buy here Pay here" with the corresponding jacked up prices.
When I was shopping in 2015 I stopped to check out a Rubicon. No price but a salesman walked out as I was checking out the rust spot next to the taillight. I asked the price and we had to go into the office to find it. I hadn't noticed they were a BHPH so almost passed out when he said the price; $18,000. When I asked about the rust he said "We can have that fixed". For eighteen thousand dollars I want something which hasn't had to have the rust fixed, thank you very much.

That's another reason why I don't look at vehicles without prices; I'm still getting calls from a dealership I contacted at that same time. They have all kinds of things to offer, yet still haven't given me the price of the Tacoma I initially contacted them about almost 6 years ago.

I still believe that the poster who can't get to the bank will be able to get his limit increased temporarily if he just contacts the bank.

I discovered that the big storefront tax preparer chains work on the same principle. They make their big money on the outrageous interest they charge on cash-now refund-anticipation loans, and apparently they push to keep extending your payoff terms and maybe lending you more money, perpetually like a credit card. Tax prep is just bait to get you in the door.

I discovered this at Jackson-Hewitt when I wanted a professional review before filing the Estate Tax return I had prepared for Dad's estate, back when smaller estates were taxed. The branch manager and I both concluded that I had already learned more about the mysteries of preparing an estate tax return than the brief overview that was provided in his firm's annual refresher course. He then confided that the whole industry of storefront tax prep exists to feed into those predatory loans. He said go to a CPA firm for the kind of expertise I was looking for.

I imagine they are open on weekdays, I just figured at least one would have been open on Saturday like they were a few months ago... I wouldn't want to pull the $$ I would need to get this boat out of an ATM... too many bills... stupid jet boats being worth too much money lol :)

You probably couldn't pull that much out of the ATM in a day. They have limits on how much you can pull out so that one person can't drain the machine for everyone else.

Not a branch anywhere here with drive through... casualty of crime and the few remaining fell because of the anti car green movement... cars idling bad and reducing parking at every chance to steer people to transit villages and public transit.

How do you get cash online?

Never had an ATM card or Debit Card but have known two people forced at gun point to withdraw money from ATM machines... one in Hayward and one in San Leandro... just never seemed like a good thing idea here.

Wonder of the post offices will be closed... although they are all behind Plexiglas...
Florida is functioning normally.......including banks!
We sure hope the California refugees stop at Texas.
