I've noticed less access to my money lately too... with everything online and whatnot not normally an issue, my ATM daily cash limit went up, but what if I want to buy something with my money? I work 8-5 M-F, I've noticed bank hours at most branches anymore are 9-5 M-F and some on Saturday is only drive up service... I'm about to buy a used boat, went by two Wells Fargo locations trying to get cash out (people accepting personal checks for goods is no more...) yesterday and one has new hours posted finally showing that they are only open 9-5 M-F instead to 9-6 like normal and the usual 9-12 Saturday... they've been doing that for a while but hasn't been posted. So I went to another and they had a sign up of "drive up service only" with a 10+ car line... Apparently I get to wait til Monday and go at lunch...
You may be able to call the bank and get your daily limit increased temporarily. I've done that in the past, although not for the amount which you are talking about.

I too have DSL. I called cable just to ask how much to run a 2600 ft cable. I don't remember if they even would do it or how much, seems like thousands of dollars.

2600 ft twisted pair, trenched and buried...nada$=0$, cost me nothing!

I asked the installer why. He said because it was a "telephone line". Some federal rule/act/regulation requires the phone co to provide telephone service to rural areas.

When I told him i don't have a land line phone he said, yea, they are trying to separate those 2 situations so they can charge the DSL only customers for installation.
When I had my phone line run here 15 years ago they charged me full price to bring it the last 1/2 mile down the town road; claiming that it was my driveway. Even the power company who let them use the poles said that it wasn't right; but there was no recourse to get it corrected. Either pay for it up front, or don't have a phone. Back then even cell companies gave me a hard time about having a cell phone with no land line.

Rural electrification, then later, rural phone service back when ATT was a regulated monopoly, were subsidized by the government years ago. This basically showed the ability of rural counties to enact their interests in Congress.

More recently after deregulation the phone companies were able to escape any mandated phone service beyond traditional POTS. So they arbitrarily classified DSL and later, fiber, as simply entertainment, non regulated, with no requirement to extend anything but a modem-grade voice line out to your location.

Not a week goes by without ATT offering to switch my POTS line with DSL to fiber... now they will pay me to switch.

Thing is with all the power outages here in California I was the only one in the neighborhood with continuous phone and internet... after a day or two everyone was out.

Neighbors came over to use my garage rotary phone! No kidding.

So far few bank branch locations have reopened. Still a wasteland...

Our governor, Governor Abbott, rescinded all COVID-19 restrictions and opened Texas up on March 10. Our businesses, including banks, are back to normal hours and open to the public. Restaurants are allowed to operate at full capacity, if they chose. Wearing a mask in public is voluntary, no state or local mandate. Businesses can require a mask be worn to enter their business, same as requiring a shirt and shoes or no service.

Despite the predictions of some that opening up would cause a surge in COVID-19 cases, COVID-19 patients comprise less than 2% of hospitalized patients in our 19 county area used for statistics and the rate is steadily falling. Almost 24% of the residents 16 and up in our county have had at least their first shot. Most hospitals, primary care providers, and retail pharmacies are providing vaccinations. There are mega vaccination sites such as the Texas State Fair and Texas Motor Speedway. TMS has 16 drive thru lanes and does 10,000 shots a day. Anyone 16 and up can sign up to get vaccinated, with priority given to the elderly and those with co-morbidities.

My wife has worked at the same financial institution for 39 years. Their lobby hours have always been 9-5 Mon-Thur. 9-5:30 Fri. And some branches open on Saturdays. I've always complained to her that those hours are not good for working folks. She said come to the lobby at lunch. Well, at lunch, the tellers go to lunch. So when the most people are in the lobby, the fewest tellers are available. GRRRRrrrrrr!!!! :ROFLMAO:

ATMs took care of most of that. The only time I need to go there now is to pick her up for lunch! (y)

But yes, if you need to withdraw more cash than your ATM limit, you have to go during their hours or on Saturday. No way around it and no different than the past. And now with COVID, some of their lobbies are closed, so you have to call and make an appointment to get cash.

Anybody who still has copper-wire phone service can upgrade from rotary to a simple touch-tone corded phone (buttons instead of rotary dial), or a more compact '60's Princess-style phone. If it has illuminated buttons those are powered from the wall but the communication is all powered from the Central Office, by batteries there when their power is down.

Touch-tone simple phones have the 'Press One for ...' capability that you need for anything today. Rotary really is dead.

I've always carried a few $100 bills for the unexpected.

I've found that laying down at least three $100 bills as a deposit is sufficient to persuade anyone selling a tractor implement etc that I'm serious and will return with full payment as soon as possible. And I try to carry off some component worth nearly that much, to lock in the seller. To my surprise when I bought the 3-point backhoe, the seller said don't worry, he would accept a personal check for the last 25% of his asking price.

I think I will always have a rotary extension... it's been in the house my entire life and dad bought it from the phone company when they said we could and I put the Customer Owned sticker on it 5-18-83
