Looking at purchasing a ZD1011 and the lack of fuel storage is a disappointment at 6 gallons. The Z700 series has dual tanks but is a gas burner. I know I can step up to the larger Diesel for more storage but it's not practical considering this will only be for residential use only. My question is how the fuel consumption is on the 19 horse Diesel for the 1011 compared to the Kawasaki on the Z724? Any opinions between the two? I'm buying based on the diesel and hydro that is offered on the ZD but I honestly would probably be fine with the Z700 and save a ton of money. Thoughts or opinions?

I replaced my old gas ZTR with a diesel. Go with the diesel, even with the smaller capacity. I mow 2 acres around the house and buildings with my ZD1211 every week, uses about 1 gallon of diesel. I like to keep fresh diesel in it. I put in 5 gallons of diesel at a time. Lasts at least a month.

I guess the ZD1011 isn't a popular mower.

My ZD331 holds 12.9 gallons In 2 tanks. I think they hold same amount of diesel.
With a 31HP diesel, after 8 hours of pretty strenuous mowing, I use about 10 gallons.
I would think a 19HP diesel would run about an 8 hour day on a full 6 gallon tank.

My 28 hp diesel is burning 1/2 gph or so.

With my current 26 hp Kawasaki I'm using around 1.5 gallons an hour and stuck with a 6.5 gallon tank. I'm trying to justify atleast some savings in fuel although I know it won't make up the difference in amount I'll be spending.

Or people that own them don't complain about them. We sell a half dozen or so every year. Generally we don't see them except for those who choose not to do their own basic service.
Time you burn through 5 or so gallons of diesel you'll be looking to get off and stretch your legs, or you'll be done for the week anyways.
The ZD isn't in the same class as anything in the 700 series.

I think you would be fine with the gasser, too but the 6 gallon tank is NOT the reason to walk from the diesel.
A 19HP diesel, as RickB said, will run longer than you’ll want to operate it on 6 gallons.

That's the answer I was looking for. I had initially looked at buying the ZG series but later found out the "Kubota" engine was a rebadged Kohler. I tend to lean more on Kubota built engines whether they cost more or not due to reliability. Which is why I started looking at the diesel. Probably will be pulling the trigger on one soon. The diesel engine will probably outlast the mower.

Yep. You’ll like that diesel. I love my ZD 331. It’s very rugged and with sharp blades gives a great finish cut

Is there an option for a “Pro deck”?
if there is and you have lots of roots or rough ground, GET IT!

Yep the ZD comes with it. Kubota says it's supposed to provide 22% better fuel economy. Not sure if it really does. I will for certain be adding the lift kit for easy maintenance on the deck. That's seems like a good feature for $100+.

I really like my zd1211 for a multitude of reasons, including fuel usage and handling. Diesel is just easier to deal with.
I don't know the fuel usage of the zd1021, but my machine uses a seasonal average of 0.83 gallons per hour, and in my use about 28 acres per tank (12.9g). That works out to about 2 acres per gallon, which would get you 12 acres mowed per tank assuming similar fuel usage.

Do yourself a favor, I know it seems like I’m spending your money, but life is short, get the Z you really want and option it out the way you want to make your seat time a pleasure.
You won’t regret it.

Oh I definitely will. I did the same for my tractor and my sxs. When I make a purchase, it's usually for the long haul. I will definitely be getting a few extras such as the lift kit and chute lifter.

I use a piece of plastic coated wire for a chute lifter. Wish I had the more professional version lol

Easy to spend someone's money, but the commercial chute cover I use is worth every penny! Advanced Chute Systems, but they are a little pricey for what they are.

It only hurts till the next bank statement cycle. Then it's all good.

I got them to "throw" in the lift. The chute I'm fairly certain I can build something. I think Ive made up my mind though.

I have a Z724. Got the front lift and LEDs. It's a little thirsty being a gasser but I have no regrets. Would buy again.
