Valley camp is a great museum ship did the tour twice once as a kid, much later took my kids to it. They actually have a torn apart lifeboat on display from the Fitzgerald wreck.

Yep, been there a couple of times. Also been to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum on Whitefish Point. Well worth the trip.

On average, they only freeze completely over every 10 years or so. Here we are standing on shove ice which was over 20ft tall. Had big rocks in it as well. Shove ice is what gets pushed up from wind over the winter. Some of the bumps seen in this photo, might be 40ft above the water..... o_OView attachment 715381
i think it was 1979, lake michigan froze all the way across which they said was unusual.

That's when i thought, you can shove all this ice right where the sun don't shine and i headed south!

Very humbling to see the Big Fitz's Bell on display up at White fish point.

As much as I hate to see any ship headed to the scrap yard, now is really a good time to break her as steel is way, way up, like 60% higher than it was a year ago. so it's probably expedient to break her now.
