Believe it or not some folks pay CASH for tractors.. You NOT the only Big $hooter on this website. :poop:
Yeah….doesn’t make much sense to finance a homeowner tractor. It’s not really a pure profit making tractor, like one used for work/farming.

You are showing your ignorance. My tractor was manufactured and assembled in PA. Only the engine is made by Mitsubishi in Japan.
I don't believe they actually manufacture any tractors in the US, only some final assembly such as wheels/tires cabs etc.
Just things that they they leave off where manufactured so they are easier to ship, typically crated tractors.
All the US locations are only listed as assembly/distribution facilities.

The only complete manufacturing locations I could find were located in India and China. This was when I was looking at them a couple years ago, but it doesn't appear enything has changed.

I based my statement on what I saw the guy and his son doing. From what I saw in that video he would have been more productive with a hydrostat utility tractor for that type of work. Just my two cents.
From what I saw in the video it was mainly inexperience with a loader and the tractor. ( HST or gear doesn't change that)
I do that type of work with my shuttle gear tractor often, fast and easy

The only obvious way to make a totally rational decision is to buy the one that has your favorite color of paint.
Ha! That is so true. I wish someone would produce a great tractor that was blue, green, red, orange. white stripped. Now that would be a #1 market share and one hell of a tractor. Ha. Great post Cougsfan Boy, hope I didn't leave out a color!

I take issue with the statement, "The Japanese tractor maker is often credited for fully developing the compact and utility tractor market..." They like Deere took their design cues from Ford. Ford started the compact/utility segment with their 1000 series. Kubota was the first to start the small diesel engine category.

Hmm... FWIW, this study done in 1982, says the Ford 1000 series tractors were built by Shibauru. At that time the Japanese compact tractor industry had several major players - all making their own diesel engines. Yanmar lead the world in large ship diesels.

It’s just hard to believe you can buy a good, tough running tractor for 1/8th the cost of new! You do need to have $10,000 in reserve for a big repair, and the will to fix smaller issues, but that’s still a heck of a lot less.

You can do the same with cars, trucks, & machine tools too.

I'm not sure why, but we all know it's true. All it takes is will.

Economically I don't understand what happens in the future when today anyone can buy a used machine that can be repaired to be better than new for so little total cost.

Supply and demand.

IF more people thought that way there would be more demand for used stuff and less for new.....Prices would reflect that.

Stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Manufactures getting $300k for a new tractor because there is enough demand at that price to keep the MFG happy. Less demand for big old iron because so many dont want to "inherit other peoples problems".

I remember seeing ads for Kubota in Popular Mechanics back in the day.

One of the advantages of buying used is that inheriting other people's problems gives a competent person the opportunity to fix them so that they aren't problems anymore.

Some people think that repairability is at least part of the reason why the older simpler equipment will continue to go up in price while the newer equipment goes down.

Used equipment has a huge advantage that new equipment can't have - it's been tested and the problems are known. The problems and the advantages are right there to be seen and priced accordingly.

There’s nothing wrong with financing a homeowner tractor and it’s smart with 0% interest. As long as monthly cash flow works, what is the issue?

One of the primary reasons for buying a new tractor is the ability to spec it out with exactly the options that you want. Oftentimes it’s difficult to find a used tractor in the model with options that you want.

I don’t think you have this correct!
Some small bits of fabrication were most likely the only thing that were manufactured here and the rest was built and shipped here only to be assembled here at least that was my take when talking with them at the plant several years back.

You actually believe it’s really “0 percent” interest?

I have definitely worked 0% interest deals. Not the either -or ones where you pay up front. Good credit and knowledge of the world of finance has served me well in that regard.

Leasing is a big scam about 90% of the time. But, to each his or her own.

0% interest is a scam. It’s built into the price virtually all the time
