I went to over to my nearest Harbor Freight on Tuesday and counted 5 Teslas in 4 miles of traffic on the way there. Nearly continuous views of different Teslas, on a boulevard then urban freeway. In addition to the Teslas owned by the neighbors immediately next to each side of my home, so seven overall. I've never seen one dead anywhere.

This was in urban NorCal. Was your experience on long remote stretches of freeway?

Sometimes I joke with the neighbor next to the ranch who is appalled by all the city people buying property around there. "Today I finally got back over to the land of Teslas and Priuses!"

Wednesday we drove the 100 miles from home to the ranch. I guess 1/4 of the time a Tesla could be seen somewhere in the traffic moving along with us. They are nearly as common as Prius.

But there are still about as many immaculate 4 door, 4-person locomotive size pickups on the road too.

You know what's happening in Antarctica but not in your own state. Sounds like some lack of candor.

It's a question of relevance. Climate change hits me where I live. My basic info filter is, "Will I need to know this tomorrow?" I DVR the news and FF through 2/3 of every broadcast.

Antarctica is relevant because the record cold was caused by the jet stream moving closer to the pole. The same thing is happening in the Northern Hemisphere, though the geography allows high pressure to push the vortex off the pole. As a veteran prepper, I'm getting set for a record breaking cold wave. Why would I care what some arsonist did in a city hundreds of miles away? Not my monkeys, not my circus.

I'm interested in EV development because it is one of the basic infrastructure items that have to be in place to eliminate fossil fuel use. It looks like we have reached peak fossil fuel. Fracking is dying as people lose drinking water. Oil companies are having trouble keeping up with demand, while shifting plans toward renewable energy. Coal is no longer competitive, and is steadily losing market share. By comparison, why would I care about some whacko arsonist? Maybe it's important to you there in Chicago, but big cities are dying right along with fossil fuels. Give it up and move on.

I already have an 8 gauge 50 foot 240v. extension cord. It was way cheaper than buying longer welding leads.

The moving ones were around the cities of Tulsa and St. Louis, as I recall. The dead one was in the middle of Ohio.

I've never seen a dead Tesla along the highway, but a surprising number of Mercedes Benz. My cousin bought a Mercedes and it got towed twice in the 2~3 years she owned it. She didn't have kind things to say about it.

I have a question: Do any of the modern EV's have a spare tire? Fancy cars like BMW etc? No spare onboard might be a deal breaker for me.

Years ago while staying at a motel I met a woman from New Brunswick who was travelling to Quebec in her brand new BMW convertible. She trashed a tire in a construction site and had to wait 3 days to get a new one. If I spent that much money on a car and it left me stranded because it takes special tires I wouldn't own it very long... probably about one hour longer than it took to get the new tire on.
