I had a Jeep Commando, circa 1973 model. This isn't it, but identical. Really rode and drove well, but traded it for a truck when I got out of college. Wish I had it today.

Mine was a '55 Willy's Wagon. Candy apple red, chrome wheels, varnished oak trim interior, leather upholstery, small block 'vette, and overdrive. Pulled a horse trailer many miles. Now I see it at car shows sometimes....Originally built by a HS shop class as a class project. I bought it from them.

They used to build one of something classic every year as part of their shop education and then would sell it at the end of the spring semester.
My best friend in HS drove an old Willy's Wagon; many great memories in that. I don't think it could hit 45 mph down hill...

A jeep graveyard after WWII in the South Pacific. Approximately 640,000 were made during the war with the vast majority sent overseas. Few were ever returned to the US. Willys made about 2/3 of them with Ford making the balance. Willys renamed the MB to CJ along with a few tweaks to go after the civilian post war market. (M = military, CJ = civilian jeep).

Mahindra was also licensed to build them after the war for the Indian market in the late 40's. That license expired long ago but that explains a bit about the Roxor they build just a few years ago and why they had to change to look of it after Fiat/Chrysler sued them.

Mahindra still has that license - it didn't "expire long ago".

The legal issue is that they marketed something that infringed upon the jeeps trademarked grill, in America. This was not part of the existing license.

Paid 4.99 gallon for Chevron regular last night…

As mention it is possible to pay around 6 in SF proper…

Some are cheering the high prices to get people onto mass transit which was nearly deserted 18 months back.

Just saw another brand new Jeep with temp tags this morning.

Surprised that it still Jeep transcends generations in appeal and especially to young single women.

I was making a general statement that I thought others might be interested in.

Maybe symmantics or where we are getting our information but according to Wiki, Jeep did give Mahindra a license to make CJs even sending them parts and drawings in the late 1940's.. They were sold in India. That was the license I was referring to.
The existing license is for the Thar, not a CJ which was the topic until now.

As for your statement regarding grill, this again is from Wiki.

I doubt many care about the specifics so carry on and please feel free to correct whatever I have here in error.
