I have the Ranger MUTT by IPA. Comes with the adapters and everything except battery. Less than $200 and self contained, so works out in the field or were ever.

Any recommendations on brand of plugs to use for rewiring?
/edit - I'm referring to the 7 blade trailer plug.

Here is the IPA Tools tester for light duty trailers and RVs. As is everything else it is on backorder.

Do LED trailer lights work fine on 12v AC?

Yes they will, since they are diodes, they will conduct on half the AC wave.

OT, but I've heard that some LED headlamp replacements can cause havoc within car wiring somehow. There's a ballast or current limiter .. something that fixes/prevents issues. I'm sure any 'test boxes' we can buy RTR wouldn't have issues with LEDs.

btw, I've found a DC component more than once testing AC devices that acted up. The DC scale on a VOM is all that's needed. AC setting/range can also find AC in DC circuit, say pointing to a bad diode in a generator.

OK back to OP's ... uh .. pics? Links?

Well after Amazon messed up on two deliveries I chickened out fter reviewing it on youtube I ordered a MUTT from IPA via Northerntool.
Then today after looking it up again on Youtube 5 DIY solutions show up.

The correct key words seem to be "trailer light tester".
So enjoy:

Still surprised eTrailer didn't have a moderate cost solution.
