Ordered a 2022 Ram 2500

The F550 doesn’t get the 10 speed
The Ram 3500 pickup doesn’t get the Aisin. It previously got a Chrysler transmission. Ram now offering a ZF-8 in lighter Cummins trucks. Should be a very good transmission.
Dont know what the future transmission will be in the 3500-5500 chassis.
Have heard of troubles with Ford 10 speed.
No contest for me. The Cummins engine and the Ram truck are nicer and more capable. The HO Cummins is sick

Just went to the Ram build site and verified that the Aisin 6 speed is required with the HO Cummins. You cannot select the ZF 8 speed with either of the diesel power options. The 8 speed ZF is standard with the 6.4l Hemi.

I hope that an 8/10 speed becomes available at some point.

As I understand it there were early teething problems with the 10 speed however later builds have been trouble free ( so far).

That may be new. When I was looking, the 2500/3500 came with an RFE transmission

One thing to keep in mind, for several years you could get a Cummins in a Ford truck, it just had to be a 4500 or higher.

People talk about how great this old truck engine was or that engine was the best ever. The problem is those trucks are all old and they have improved them so much over the years. I’d love to own a mid 90’s Dodge with a 12 valve Cummins but the truth is it would feel like driving a 25 year old truck even if it was low miles.

It had to be a 650 or bigger.

They never put a Cummins in a 450. It had to be a F600 or higher. And not putting them in 250s and 350s was probably the biggest mistake they ever made.

This is going the way of guys thinking the Ford Superduty had an Allison transmission in it, too.

I stand corrected. I know someone that has one and I thought it was a 450 but wasn’t sure.

A 350 with a 5.9 and an Allison would’ve been a sweet ride. Talk about domination the truck market. If they could’ve put on a tilt hood to allow better access they’d have really had something.

It could have a 5.9 but it didn’t roll off the assembly line that way. The 450 and 550s had the same motors as the pickups.

Eventually what happened was that Ram became more like the Ford. They developed a 4500 and 5500 and got a heavy duty automatic.
Thats why they are eating Fords lunch on sales in the 4500/5500 chassis segment.
GM has the tilt hood, but can’t seem to sell a lot

Oh boy, you just don’t realize how much better the Ram Cummins pulls a load. I realize trucks do more than just pull loads, but I’m not kidding when I tell you the difference between my Ram 5500 and my F-550 is night and day. The truck itself is just as nice, if not nicer than the Ford. Ram gives you an incredible list of features, even with the Tradesman line.
Dont test drive one, you’ll forget your Ford forever. I was like you, thought Ford was the best. Then I went over to the dark side. No plans on coming back. Pulls so strong, loaded with comfort features. Really comfy seats.
20 years ago, a 5.9L Cummins would easily outpull a 7.3. today, a new Cummins 6.7 will outpull a Ford 6.7. It’s the in-line six configuration. It makes more torque down low and off pedal than a V-8.
Also, get better fuel mileage and give you a true medium duty rating doing it, too (y)
Had a Cummins 3500 SRW Dodge. Loved the Cummins. Thought the truck was great until I lost it in a fire and replaced it with a SD because that's what I could find. No more Dodge/Ram for me. Drive quality, ride quality and cab quality just isn't there. But I'm glad people like them.

I have no complaints concerning MPG. I've never reset either cab indicator. Both are over 16. Probably reality is 15. I'm fine with that.

How long ago was the Cummins? They have come a long way in the last 5 years. The older trucks were strong pullers, but Ford used to have an all around nicer truck.
Things have changed….dramatically. I was all set to buy another Ford, until I drive the Ram. I was a blue oval guy. Then I took a look around.

I figured that's where you were headed.

My Cummins was a late model '04.

My two SDs are '00 and '02. I bought the '00 with 100K miles on it for $12K. I bought the '02 with 130K miles on it for $13.

So, search online sites and find me two Cummins trucks for $25K that can carry water to my two SDs. I'll wait.....

I think the difference is in the weights I pull compared to you. I need the strength and reliability of the Cummins over any other features (whatever they may be, non I know of) of the Ford and the less powerful Powerstroke.

I’m impressed with the 5.9 in my 750. It’s really not enough motor for the job but it’ll pull the best of anything I’ve had. I wanted a M11 truck but I never found a truck with a m11 that checked everything else I wanted.

I was A Ford guy too, for years, until I bought my first Dodge/Cumins in "91. I didn't like Dodge at all, back in the day, so in 1990 I built my Ford F-350 with a Cummins. I was so impressed with it, I bought the Dodge the next year. Four Cummins powered trucks in my stable to date, all exhaust brake equipped. You can't beat the exhaust brake on a Cummins.

If you like your 5.9L…..I have had a few trucks and pieces of equipment with an 8.3L Cummins
Talk about a sweet motor. It’s like a 5.9L or steroids. Gobs of low end torque….
I would actually look for a truck powered with an 8.3L as my most important feature. Very close to making a move on this IH 6x6, but still holding out hope for a Freightliner with an 8.3L.

Ford pickup Guys who never owned them all sound the same. Once you own one, they win you over. Especially when you need to pull something.

Mine is in a Ford. I thought about buying a cab and chassis with the specs I wanted but I’d have probably spent 20k to get the bed I wanted.
