Mine bought dynamite all the time, mostly for stump removal.

Dad did to. He was a firm believer "if a little is enough, more is better". He left some big holes.

I still carry $150 for emergencies, and at least $10 for small purchases. Gas and everything else for my truck goes on one card, other things go on another.

About 10 uears ago, I would draw $300 'walkaround money' out of the bank. It would do me 2, sometimes, 3 months. Inflation has gone so far that now I draw $400 and sometimes it doesn't even make a month. Alot of it goes to my favorite grocery store that does not take credit cards. Debit yes but not credit.

You couldn’t get that in a Barber Shop even today. What hair I have left is curly and I’ve rarely had a “good” haircut.
Well whenever you do get the cut you want keep going back to the same barber.

That was and still is my way.

A year or so ago I was back to the area from which I had moved some 10 years ago so being due for a cut I dropped in to my old barber.
Well , what a reception, and what conversation catching up on everything, was like a family reunion.

Yeah, the plastic is convenient. I like filling up with gas and not having to go in to pay...but I also hate to use the card for small purchases, so I manage to spend a fair amount of cash along. Change goes into the change bucket, which serves as a reservoir for the car wash and a treasure trove if the kids are running short.

I use CCs a lot more than I used to, both are cashback cards, so it's like getting 1-5% off my purchases. Gas, almost all the time, other purchases over $25 or so also CC. That's about the extent, I don't see myself going cashless anytime soon, not gonna use a CC for some $8 purchase.

Change gets tossed into a jar, when it gets full-ish I'll go to one of those Coinstar machines and cash them in for an Amazon certificate. If you get cash, they take a 9.5% cut, but on a gift card you get 100% of what you cashed in.

I remember the attempts to eradicate or control fire ants here in the 70’s. Crop dusters or planes would fly over dropping Mirex bait over the county. You would get pelted if standing outside. It was ground up corncobs soaked with the chemical. The county extension office gave out free small bags of it. Mirex was later outlawed as really bad stuff, like chlordane.
