That’s the second worst, but I agree that dumping animals is on top of the list.
Years ago I was on my way to a friend’s house and took a deserted gravel road short cut. It was this time of year or a bit earlier and colder than cold, when I saw something on the center of the road ahead. When I got there I discovered a tiny kitten, right where somebody must have opened their door and dropped it. I couldn’t keep it, my friends had 2 dogs so couldn’t keep it either; so I stopped by a farm, knocked on their door and after explaining the situation they agreed to take it. The animal hadn’t even been there long enough to get cold so the :censored: must have been right in front of me. In hindsight I probably could have caught them but I didn’t try. I would have no qualms about taking them out someplace where I work and leaving them to fend for themselves, without adequate clothing. I hunt, fish, raise my own livestock and have been known to trap; yet each animal is treated in the most humane way I possibly can. There’s no excuse for dumping an unwanted animal.

End of rant.
Back when I was a kid 8yo, my grandmother ran me up near the top of the mountain we lived on to go fishing.

She would sit in the car and I would head up and down the stream with a pole.

I went to walk from the culvert I was fishing down to a bridge around the corner.

She was following along side me with her car. I had a couple fish on a stringer in one hand and my pole with the other.

I got halfway down to the bridge and got swarmed by 3 kittens trying to get the fish.

I'm in a pair of shorts and a pair of sneakers. Those kittens climbed to my shoulder after those fish Those claws were getting skin to get purchase

Gram pulled up beside me, I passed her the stringer of fish, then the kittens went across my shoulder and into the car

Gram threw the fish on the back floor board for the kittens, and loaded up my pole into her car.

We came home with 3 kittens. We pulled over when we got close to the house and tossed out what was left of the two trout.

Someone tossed them at the top of the mountain. It was all seasonal rentals and none of them were occupied at the time of year we were up there.

Gram was hot!!!!! I was 8yo and didn't really understand what she was so hot about at the time.

Jstpssing, I'd be happy to hear about trapping and humane treatment. I've always thought they were mutually exclusive.

Here in rural Northern Virginia there was no trash pickup, until about 25 years ago. I hear from old timers that the roadways were littered with bags of trash. Then a neighborhood service group contracted for a trash truck to come to the community center,, and charged a small fee for people to bring their trash on Saturday mornings. It worked well. Except on my farm. The former occupants must have taken their household trash, but farm trash (pipes, posts, wire, implement parts, etc.) was either piled up forever, or dropped wherever it became valueless to the farmer. I have burned massive piles of wood and hauled 246 tires to the dump and probably $800 of metal to the recycle company

Our township does an admirable thing. Every spring they put out a huge roll off and make it easy for residents to bring tires, appliances, TVs metal, etc. Pretty much everything is free to dispose of. Helps reduce roadside dumping.
Ours does the same thing but no tires.

Several years ago I was sitting in truck loading cassettes in stereo (told you it was a while back) when a truck pulled off public road into my driveway interance 220 yards from my house. Guy took a bucket from bed and dumped it within a few feet of shanty where kids waited for school bus. As he was backing out I started up drive ad followed him less than 2 miles where he pulled into his house. I didn't confront him but went back to see what he had dumped. Fish heads, guts and other discarded parts. The guy's expensive house was on 200 acres of 500 acre farm his dad owned and they leased other land in the area. For more than 15 years until I moved,I saved fast food wrappers, drink containers and other trash accumlated while driving. First time I passed his house at night I tossed it. Couple times when we cleaned out food freezer,I threw that out in front of his house. Roaming dogs killed 5 chickens while I was at work so I hauled those to his place. The list is endless. I think I would have quickly got over it had he been a bum or crackhead but the fact he owned land where he could have disposed of it stuck in my craw.

Usually we only see beer cans/bottles and fast food garbage. The odd garbage bag appears, probably when it bounces out the back of a pickup truck.

I have a neighbor that goes for daily walks and bags up the beer empties if they see them. Collects a couple hundred bucks a year in recycling deposit returns and donates it to local charities.

One of our contractors left the woods for parts and found a couch which hadn't been there in the morning. He called the forester in charge of the job, who then contacted the district forest ranger. The Ranger went through the couch and found an envelope which had slid down behind the cushions; the address was some 30 miles away. Less than 12 hours after he dumped it the guy got his couch back along with a summons. He later also got a letter from my employer, stating that he wasn't allowed on any of our managed lands for a year.

Wow, that was lucky. Some jerks dumped several bags of garbage on our 25 acre rental property, and I did find a Visa receipt in one of them. Sent it to the cops, but they did nothing.

Yeah, more and more they ignore many smaller claims.
Guess it's the paper work involved.

Heck they even don't want to write up stolen exhaust converter thefts around here, but they are sure good at ticketing for stops at deserted intersections.

It is all about safety don't U know, not cash grabs.
