So, more moderators needed?
That is one solution. The Moderators need patience to ease the topic back on track because almost all "off topics" become political which should not be allowed. Seeing both sides of a discussion without it drifting into politics can be very informative. For example I had no idea that one person got covid 4 times after being fully vaccinated and this came from a credible source here on TBN. I also did not realize that some treatment (that some of my unvaccinated friends had success with) was no longer available, also first found out about it here. The information related by personal experience here is a very valuable and trusted asset since a lot of the members have a long history here.

I frequent another forum a lot more often than here (though in the beginning, I came here more than there)

Anyway, they created a "BS" forum. It was not a forum that was open to everyone, you had to be invited in. So yeah, you can call it a club or something.

Bottom line, inside that forum, the rules were (are) VERY lax and you can have at it. The thing is, new people don't have access to it so you can't have a new person sign up and cause a racus. You tend to have longer tenured people in there and given their tenure, you have a feel for their temperament and know they're not just trolling.

Food for thought. Maybe you could do that here and see how that works.

We come to learn and discuss things but closing them down is frustrating. Either add mods to deal with violators or add a place for open discussion. I would be more prone to kicking out the violators than lose people like K0UA.

TBN used to have a couple of places like that, and those conversations and their resulting animosities always spilled over into the interactions in the rest of the forums. That's why it went completely away to another site.

I think being a bit overzealous when it comes to moderation is a good thing, sure has improved the airline industry.

Do you think we should allow the TBN members make the rules by way of proposing and voting on rules?

Over the years we've tried our best to make rules in the best interest of the community. Doing anything else would be counter-productive. But, maybe it's time for a new way of deciding the community rules.
Nah, Craigs list did that. Used to, I'd look on there several times a day. Now it's once every couple munts.

I just found out there is an actual vote, not available on the app. Guess I need to login on a computer to vote.

I love this site, but at times people continually expressing their political opinions, or changing the direction of a thread to make it become politically oriented really diminishes the intent and quality of the site. I think if the members set the rules, the strong willed politically minded people would take over the site and ruin it.
