I think swapping from R4 to R1 requires getting different size wheels also.

Mine did not require wider wheels

R14s aren't that common & not avalible on all machines. I think they are more common on L & smaller machines. May nit be avalible on MX or Ms.

R1s, R4s & R3s all require different sized rims. I think R14s use the same size rims as R4s.

I have r1s on my MX. But I don't think the r4s on the MX would be a bad choice either for some occasional damp areas. When you get to larger r4 tires....the lug spacing is wider and almost look similar to an ag. They don't cake up and clean out fine.

The fronts are smaller....so the lugs are tighter....but they are also significantly wider for more flotation

I've used both R1's and R4's on my Kubotas over the years. There is no question that the R1's provide more traction, especially in mud. For working fields, they are the best choice IMO.

I don't do much field work anymore and I found the R1's tend to tear up turf when mowing groomed surfaces. I switched to R4's for this reason. I compensate for the loss of traction by using chains when working in mud or snow.

Mine had it as an option. Maybe some models do not. If they are not offered as an option, one could buy them from a tractor tire shop, have them installed, and sell their new factory take offs

I haven’t seen them as a dealer option on cuts or uts. Maybe large uts? And are the wheels compatible? Could be a very expensive change over.

I changed from the standard width R-1s to the optional 520 width wider rubber on stock rims. Dealer looked it up and told me wheel part number is the same.

Yep. Most smaller tractors have entirely different wheels for the R1 and R4 tire options.

That’s not what Im talking about. Im talking about going from a narrow R-1 to a wider R-1.
Anyone who wants R-1 traction and increased flotation (like an R-4) can have both.
