I didn't watch Prime video or gaming so that wasn't an advantage. Free shipping was the only advantage and I get than anyway over $25.I use the prime card on amazon as it gives another 5% off which I take as store credit. Prime also offers video streaming which I use since I cut the cable cord. And now Prime is offering gaming, which hits me right in the gen X so I'll check that out as well.
I do the same. Far as Bezo's goes, I don't need to help him finance his new Yacht.I didn't watch Prime video or gaming so that wasn't an advantage. Free shipping was the only advantage and I get than anyway over $25.
He is filthy rich. But he also provides the best service to me as a customer. Nobody delivers as quick, or makes returns so hassle free as Amazon. And dealing with their customer service people is outstanding.I do the same. Far as Bezo's goes, I don't need to help him finance his new Yacht.
He got rich by giving people what they need and want. That's how it works. Just like Ford, Edison, Gates, etc. If I try to protest that by not using Amazon, I am the one most immediately affected. Trips to town (2 hours round trip) to try to find where they have what I need, and then to figure out which of those things is best and reliable, etc., and I may not find it at all. Or, I can stay at home, save the time and gas, and leisurely research what is available - and very frequently I discover something that will suit me better than what I had in mind - and I can ask questions about the product and learn of the experiences of others with the product. To my mind, that is a lot of value. And I get 5% off, free shipping and Prime videos. He is filthy rich. But he also provides the best service to me as a customer. Ya and if you recall X years ago, folks rallied against Sears, kmart, wally world etc. So amazon is next on the list. Not sure why so many hate successful people. We were supposed to hate Gates, then the Waltons, then Jobs, then Musk, etc. We say we like capitalism and free markets then get pissed off when someone gets rich by selling people stuff they want and happily pay for because it makes their lives better. But as much as folks love a good deal, they love complaining even more.
I'm opposed to HOW they do it. Most use extremely unscrupulous tactics. WM didn't become known as town killers by accident. They deliberately set out to be the only store in town and were very adept at it.
MS and Apple didn't become the predominant PC companies by accident. They tromped all over a number of others in the process.
You cannot get to that level honestly and honorably.
AMZ is doing the same things by wiping out competition. Can't get the low transport rates from UPS, FedEx, USPS and others you want? Start your own fleets of trucks, planes and local delivery and take all of the money.
And their big money is not from there. They are one of the largest web hosting providers and their big money comes from AWS that serves most other retail and government websites.
They may be convenient, but they are not honorable.

I've never seen a small town store go out of business that wasn't just begging for it to happen. There was a thread on that earlier but the short version is if you have very little in stock and keep bankers hours you can't complain when someone else who does business better takes your customers.WM didn't become known as town killers by accident.
Being armpit deep in tech since the late 80s I'd disagree. In the end they all offered what customers wanted just like every successful tech company.MS and Apple didn't become the predominant PC companies by accident. They tromped all over a number of others in the process.
That's just being smarter than the other guys. Bezos figured out how to deliver a toaster oven, a tube of axle grease, goat food and a box of #8 machine screws all to my doorstep next day. What he has done for shipping and logistics is borderline alien tech genius. Can't get the low transport rates from UPS, FedEx, USPS and others you want? Start your own fleets of trucks, planes and local delivery and take all of the money.
That's just more genius. When the tools they needed for their business didn't exist they didn't give up like most do, they created them. They design their own chips too for the same reason. Then on top of that they found a way to market those creations to others as it's own line of business. All that does is demonstrate how truly revolutionary they are in creating and running their business. It's a fascinating story once you dig into it.And their big money is not from there. I was planning to rebut Diggin It's comments, but you said it better. That's just more genius. And now facing calls for a criminal investigation.
That would be a Tesla.Just imagine if Amazon operated like Congress, “you have to buy it before you get to see what you bought”. Or something like that.
I have had a few things that were the wrong item or defective when I received them, and usually if it's a $25 or under item, they say to keep it and send you another one. It's not worth the shipping and processing cost to return it.They said keep it and credited the amount $20. I too dislike Bezos but man that's good service.
I now know and wouldn't ask again for a food product to be returned again.
