^Boy, does that bring back memories...lots of hours spent in those "luxury" cabins! Some in C141 Starlifters but mostly in the C130 Herky birds which is how they got us around Vietnam. March us all in the back and then you find yourself a seat in between the cargo...and coffins. But there were no fancy lights on the ceilings - once the rear ramp came up and the aircraft was underway it was almost pitch black inside.
My first trip in a C130 was from Da Nang to Can-Tho. Herded in like cattle. Sat on the floor, back to back.

Made several C130 trips around Iraq as well as in/out of Kuwait.

The Missouri Air National Guard does low level C130 flights over my farm. Always brings back memories.

Speaking of airplane watching...I was a preschooler for most of WWII and fighter planes fascinated me. We lived in Tulsa briefly, and I recall seeing a P38 fly overhead and then a parachute! I ran in and told Mom and Dad, that I had seen an airplane crash. I got this "Oh, yeah right. Go back out and play". There was a big story in the news paper the next day about a fighter plane that crashed. My credibility was restored instantly!

I enjoy the drone of those humongous military transports and feel comforted knowing those guys and gals are ever vigilant on our behalf.

Similar story. My Aunt was a Barn Stormer Pilot.

When I was 6 or 7 I was outside playing and heard a plane flying low. Looked to the sky and there was a plane circling our farm. As I watched it approached our hay field and landed. I ran inside and told my Mom a plane landed in our field!!!! I got the same response. "Richard, I'm busy, go play." I ran the 1/4 mile to the field to get a closer look at the plane. There was my Aunt standing there waving at me!!!! From that moment on I considered her a "Goddess". :)
