Maybe they are all flying to Miami to get some sun and warmth. Good Morning - Doofy.

They can burn all the fuel they want protecting us. I live about 100 miles west of Whiteman AFB where the B2 Bomber is based. I just smile when I get a glimpse of it. But usually by the time you hear it it's gone out of sight. It has a distinct roar, almost like a rocket. You can see it when it's above you but when it's coming or going away it's pretty much invisible. Not sure my Nissan Titan will run on Jet Fuel anyway.

Cheers, oosik!
We are about ready to thumb a ride out of here...been a long, cold and super snowy winter. There is hope though, the snow buntings arrived yesterday and gave us hope for an early spring.

Being a career military guy I get great comfort from the sightings of military aircraft. I see at least one C17 per month at high altitude flying over my place. I can easily identify them. I've flown in the C17 several times. And the older C5As. As well as C-130s. Hueys. Blackhawks. Chinooks. I stop what I'm doing and watch until they disappear. Every time. I can hear the Helicopters before I can see them. I always know what model before I see it.

I'm in the flight path for the Air National Guard to practice low level flight with C130s. They pass over at 400-500 ft altitude. I've been out in the field and wave at them. Have had them tip their wings a few times.

As a Grunt I love my air cover.

Just joking here,,,,,, I guess we could send them all to Ukraine so we wouldn't have to see them again..... :ROFLMAO:

They always say, and I agree "Freedom isn't free".
It sure isn't, and fuel is but a pittance. If every man, woman and child in the US contributed the same amount, a family of four would have to write a check for about $1,000 every month just to pay for warfighting.

We had exercises going on last week out at the airport. It is hard for me to tell if it was one plane and one helicopter or three planes and 6 helicopters. I'm afraid that we are going to spent a whole lot more any way it goes.

We see F-16's here, something often and then not for a while. There's a bridge in a deep ravine 3 miles from me that they practice bombing and there's other targets around also.
We have a very little airport a dozen or so miles from here doesn't have anybody on duty. It communicates to the small planes weather, wind direction and visability.

There's also an Air Force device that pretends to shoot missiles at the F-16's for avoidance practice etc. I think there's another one in South Dakota.

We use flightradar and similar apps and web sites to track firefighting aircraft. You can often get an idea of how the fire is doing by watching their flight paths.

I expect the military buys fuel on long term contracts so they're not subject to the same whipsaw changes of the spot price like regular fuel consumers are. I know CalFire does.

Wife actually subscribed to the paid flightradar24 today to get rid of the Ads and to learn more about the aircraft flying overhead. Today we had 6 C-17s circling overhead at 13,000 feet. The app told us they were Air Force, the manufacture date of each one, airspeed and other pertinent data. Fun and informative little hobby.
