How many small square bales can a cargo van hold?

This would of been 70 bales on a 8’ bed if I’d loaded the top differently and really wanted 70 bales.

I don’t think a normal van could carry 1/3 of that.

Small bale size confirmed earlier as 18w x 14h x ~ 36L

My T-350 cargo van area 90" H x 150" L x 56" between wheel wells / 72" above wheel wells wide.

1st row - 12 bales: 4 long (+/- 144") x 3 wide (+/- 54”) = 14" high
2nd - 5th rows (above wheel wells); 20 bales each: (5) bales stood on 14" side (+/- 70") wide x 4 bales long = 84" overall high
Drop 3~4 bales due to weight capacity = 88 bales.

And yes, I've spent many a summer day putting up hay as a teen

Thanks for all the info. I was thinking of using my flatbed trailer, but even if the van will hold 20 bales at a time, that's all I need. I just have one goat and one sheep as livestock pets, so I don't need to transport a lot. When I had my 103 acre farm and I transported a lot of hay I used a pick up and a flat bed, but I don't need to do that anymore.

No fair! You’re using those new fangled concepts they call “dimensions” and “math”!

OP has a “normal” sized van and uses “small square bales.” We know a van will only hold a “bunch”. /sarcasm.

Hey Rich, Saw a bunch of colorful guys get out of a VW one time down at the county fairgrounds. I think they might have some inside info on how to load to the maximum, try your local Ringling Bros. Agency.
