The good thing about drip systems is they require low pressure. I only get 35 psi from the well but I still need to use a pressure regulator for the drip system to cut it to 15 psi.
I still haven’t gotten the garden tiller out

Weeds are really just something growing where you don’t want them. When I had my field reclaimed the top layer of soil ended up in the stump pile. That was in 2009. I limed and tried planting various cover crops but they didn’t do well. (The turkeys didnt help matters any) For the next few years though I had a bumper crop of daisies and Black eyed Susans. They have pretty good sized root systems and over time did a good job of aeriating the soil. After a few years grass started growing, and the soil started to become fertile. I’m even starting to see earthworms, which I haven’t had since I bought the place in 2002. Funny thing though, I have no more daisies or Black eyed Susans.

When I initially started my garden 16 years ago from previous grassland, I plowed and seeded cereal wheat. Then tilled it under while the stems were still green and seeds unripe. A cheap way to add some organic matter to clay soils.
I tried winter rye, buckwheat,and oats at various times. The rye didn’t have a chance, 40 turkeys showed up and didn’t leave until they had picked the entire 2 acres clean. I should have disced it lightly to work the seeds in.
The latter two never really did anything, just got about 12 inches high and set there looking anemic.

I've been here since '05, and I've seen the makeup of my fields change over time. They were partially overgrown when I bought the place. First few years had a lot of milkweed, some sort of low bush sumac and several other flowering plants I'm not sure what they were. Other than a couple patches of milkweed I've kept for the bees, all of that's gone. Mostly grass with a lot if Indian paintbrushes and some lupine.
Tilled my garden yesterday. Will probably do it again in a few days, especially around the perimeter where grass was starting to intrude. Cutting that sod with a 5hp tiller was a workout!

It’s been 10 days since putting my peas in and I’ve been checking them through the covering, wondering why they haven’t come up. Today I pulled the plastic off and found 3 rows of trenches... with vole scat in several of them. 
Just then he ran past my foot, but I wasn’t quick enough to get him. I’ll replant this weekend, but won’t be covering the bed this time. Air temps are high enough now so they should be OK.
