just read an article that six Texas power plants tripped due to overload caused by hot weather. They want everyone to set their a/c at 78 or higher.
Bird, keep your cool.
I'm pretty sure that does not apply to our town because we are 100% green energy (sarcasm). My neighbor's air conditioning broke so he said we could use his allotment while he stays at a hotel. Then there is the lady across the street that has a whole house generator, and if all else fails - to the pool. We are covered. 91˚F HI of 98 got a neighborhood party to go to.

Got a good nap in Cats got a good nap in also, they played hard.
Tractor started right up, but did have to air up a tire. But then rain started with some loud thunder boomers.

63°F and partly cloudy this morning, and got up to 86° today.

Got a whole lot of nothing done today, and there seems to be plenty more. Decided late morning to drag my golf clubs to the driving range. Hadn't hit a golf ball since 2019, and that was easy to see. Felt good once I got my swing in order again. Short irons are still spot on, and long irons are still not.

While I was out running around, I put gas in my car in O'Fallon IL for $4.689/gal. Saw another station a few miles further west selling that same gas for $4.759. Ridiculous.

Wife will be back home from Texas tomorrow. Sure do miss her.

Working for a tube fabrication company, Drew, I frequently get dirty oily grime from the rust inhibitor on the steel all over my clothes. My Wife uses OxiClean spray, and it never fails to remove the oily stains.

Our 40% chance of T-storms just became 100%. Raining like cats and dogs in spurts. Tonight may be an early night for me.

Ted “Teddy” Riddle (1943-2022) - Find a Grave...

I expect some of you use this website so that you can check out the graves of families and friends across the lands.

Initially I planned to post it earlier and forgot it but here it is. I'm very proud of this Stone because I did not pick it out or I did not pay for it. This was Ted's choice which shows he has very good taste and he always has very good had very good taste. It actually was the most expensive Stone at that company's monument yard.

To keep from wasting the backside of the beautiful stone I spent weeks and months doing genealogy because his family tree is unknown to the community because of lack of interest in that family.

At the time he was working at Briggs and Stratton through a sheltered work shop program so over time he paid for the marker and prepaid for a nice funeral. He was so proud of the Stone.

There are families that go through life with next to zero personal belongings and assets and food and health care.
As a follow up both the funeral and graveside service were a positive experience to all. My speaking time was about 20 and 6 minutes. There were about 5-6 cars awaiting our arrival to the cemetery so I shared a short recap which actually contained some new stories as well.

Afterwards the grave marker and the genealogy on the back side lead to a large group huddle because it contained information that was news to the community. They were impressed the stone was selected by and paid for in full by Ted's efforts only. Now Ted's and his mother's genealogy are for the first time publicly known. The story how Ted got to travel to the Frankfort area to visit his father's grave site and have lunch with his Riddle first cousin was news to the attendees. Now the community knows per public records who is Ted's biological father and where he's buried as well as his mothers parents names. I bet few guys who died 10 Dec 2022 had fathers born 2 years after the Civil War end.

Our son got back from his successful Iowa internship interview in time to serve as a pallbearer. Ted's death hit both of our twins hard especially the daughter. She was beaming when I acknowledged she took the photo of Ted especially to place on his moment.

Ted became a real person to some for the first time today. Ted had no speech but he now has a voice in his community.

Alien, do you drive through that water? It looks like it would carry you away.
I wouldn't drive through that as there was a large washout on the other side. It does calm down fairly quickly though. I will drive through if it is no deeper than the wheel centers and the cab is above the water. I had to go through some deeper water yesterday but it was barely flowing. I always select 4x4 as sometimes it is slippery.
The main rain has abated and we are just getting light and misty showers now with the promise of some sun this afternoon. Cross fingers. Here is one of 2 domes that have come up on our lawn from water coming up from underneath. One split and emptied. If you poke them with a broom handle water gushes out like a hose.
Hope you can see it.

Here is our other road. Nowhere near as bad as last time.

I see New Zealand is paying $3.40 per litre fo 98! And that is with a reduction the Govt bought in to help keep the prices down.

65F with a light gentle rain coming down @ 19:30, accompanied by the occasional rumble of thunder. Missy the cat is in hiding.

Heading down to a low of around 61F overnight. Current soil temp 77F, 24-hour Average 70.9F.

Got front finished + all down around the house (west, east, and south) + plus all of the compost/wood lot that wasn't blocked by the fallen tree.

Also did the preliminary cleaning of the Cub with Stihl blower. Still needs hosed off though. Might get to that tomorrow, since it's supposed to warm (84F) again.

Got about a 1/2 dump cart load of screened compost from up at the pile and made up a half a tote of potting mix before the rain drove me in.

Ate dinner and caught a little bit of the Nightly News before heading back out since the rain had stopped.

Planted 11 of the Pink Banana Jumbo squash seeds in pots which is exactly half of them. Will do the rest if the rain lets up before too long. Then on to the pumpkins.

Cats and fish all fed.

Some pics of more hosta the deer have not eaten (yet ... :giggle:):

I put down 100# Kentucky fescue seed by hand, then straw over it. Wife & I go to feed horses & horses inside stall doors are open! They're kept latched. Barn is kept locked & I was working not far from stable...so it didn't make sense.
Horses made a mess & lids off 50 ga. grain cans but thankfully caught in time, we called vet, don't think they'll founder or colic.
Cleaned up all the mess, put on grazing muzzles, then heard squealing behind stall 8ft wall. What 'tha? With ladder looked down and it was a raccoon. I put a 2x4 down so it could get out, which it did. Went back, raccoon was gone but 2 babies there.
Now I'm trying to figure out...the best solution may be to unscrew outside wall getting them out, then board or wire to keep them out.

Some small but energetic storms popping up this evening, but looks like most if not all will miss us either north or south. "The Arch Effect" I suppose. I could see the top of the one about 45 miles to the north of us, and it was pretty active with lightning. Tall clouds lit by the evening sun are always fun to watch ... from a distance, anyway.

Got another couple hours with the flail. Boy, slow going. With all the rain of late growth and wet near grown. Doesn’t really get a chance to dry out.

Bird, keep your cool.
We may be a bit different, but we have long kept our thermostat at 75 and I'm usually too warm and Margaret's too cool. Of course, I'm much more active than she is. We do have ceiling fans and they get lots of use.

Anyway, I decided to try that 78 degree setting late yesterday. It may be a good idea, but I sure changed it back to 75 this morning.

And our weather is still 73° for a low this morning and going for 98° for a high.

Good morning, low 59 and high to 84°F. Wind WSW 3 mph. 40% chance of T-storms, again.

I guess I am not going to cut the grass like I wanted to today. I'll work on the floor for the tractor instead.

That is a raging river running across the road.

Outside now to enjoy the early morning tunes the frogs and birds make.

Have a safe day all

64 and dense fog again...84 and some sun later.

Kyle, how was the prom chauffeuring job? (spellcheck fixed my spelling)

Drizzle and rain yesterday kept me inside handling paperwork, filing, organizing and watching a movie with my wife.

Lunar eclipse tonight...hope the clouds will break so we can see it.
