I absolutely love having something I don't want slowly shoved down my throat. I love seeing the advancements in technology, and want the industry to succeed, but I don't want an EV. It feels as though in a decade it'll be the only option.
A lot of things can change in a decade. Hopefully battery technology will be better, while proponents will start to acknowledge they aren't as "Clean" as advertised. There are a lot of advantages... the low end torque of an EV will be much better than any ICE.
Maybe they even will find a way to make them sound like a Mopar with a racing cam.

I hope not though, that would be sacriligeous.

When I was 16-21 we all had our old school 4x4s. One of my HS football buddies had a Scout II, but it only had the 4 banger and a 3 or 4 speed manual. Empty, it would lose speed going up hills. A total dog. It was a good off roader and a great drive in movie/summer truck. It would literally drive through a 3’ deep river. The seats were more like school classroom chairs. I dont think it had seatbelts. Holes in the floor.

After reading the articles, it really made me stop and realize how far we have fallen. We make almost nothing anymore. We really used to innovate! (A Nissan turbo charged diesel in the late 70’s! Talk about ahead of the times!). IH built the first farm tractor with a computer in it.
International was an amazing company. They made so many rural-life & farm machinery vehicles & tractors. I think the IH pickups and the Scout II Terra could have evolved into some of the most rugged trucks on the planet, but poor business decisions, union strikes and the ‘80 fuel crisis killed them.

I really miss that kind of American ingenuity and made in USA kind of thing.

Navistar still makes trucks. They have a large test facility just west of us. In fact, it's the old Studebaker proving grounds. (note the huge Studebaker tree sign in the photo). It's fairly common to see some of their weighted trucks tooling around town. A friend of my wife used to drive for them. They either went round and round on the track, or went out on public roads and drove routes. We went by there two weeks ago and they're expanding the facilities.

As for IH in general, their problems started in the 50's and continued through the 70s, similar to Studebaker, and Oliver, then White.

Here's a pretty comprehensive timeline and history of the company.

Of course they do, but they’re now owned by [gulp] Volkswagen???? 🤮

Just about every car, truck and tractor company that ever existed was acquired or merged since the late 1800s.

I'm particularly interested in Studebaker, Oliver, White and AMGeneral, as they were all present here in South Bend. Also, Allis Chalmers was about 20 miles west of us in LaPorte. Rumely was pre-Allis there as well.

Not worried about it much. I probably won't be here anyway.

Yeah, ok I understand, but when International Harvester is owned by Volkswagen? That is like Remington Firearms owned by a French perfume company.

There’s just nothing sacred anymore. It’s like the pregnant man BS
