If there is a sensor in the canister that would
be the first thing that I would replace. I would
think that it is malfunctioning because of the
constant regen process! Has it been checked??

Never said I left it at constant idle. Just press the gas when moving or working.

Jeff
I never said you did either, I just went with what you had posted.
The "extra fuel use" is grossly overrated.
My old 1984 L275 27hp burned 2 quarts per operating hour. My 2015 3301 with emissions and 6 more HP burns .5 gallons per operating hour... hardly enough to warrant complaining about.
As much as I loved my old machine, the newer one is better in nearly every way.

I get on my father's 2008 L2800 with no emissions, and the first thing that I notice is the diesel stench. It's a much better machine than mine in a lot of ways, but after 600 hours with the cleaner running machine it's hard to go back.

I have 57 hours on my mt5. For much of it it’s been used for loader work with Rpms from 1500-2000 and probably a good 12 hours using the foot pedal and just coming off idle.

It did its first regen at 50 hours while I was tilling. This thing sure sips fuel and is pretty darn quiet even at pto. My old case Com isn’t terrible fuel wise but that thing at pto will set your ears humming. Smokes a bit under some heavy loads. The LS I never notice any.

Under regen it had that slight vinegar smell to it right as the light came on. Kept tilling. Light went off 18 minutes later. Happy ending.
Give it some rpm and lower range. My mt5 is power shuttle and does well at a mid rpm doing loader work. Maybe dig more then trying to run trees down.

I used to get a sinus headache after a few hours of operating my old tractor because of soot and fumes, not with my new machine. I like that. I guess because my machine is/was open station. Probably not an issue with a cab.
Just had a tech come down and help me with some baler electronics issues.
He told me far and away, they spend more time fixing DEF/DPF issues on tractors than anything else. Thats ridiculous that after 10 years they can’t make the DPF/DEF a more reliable system.

Might be fine for you since you don’t use a tractor to make a living, but it’s not fine for those who do. Its a major inconvenience and loss of money to be down for hours. It can become days if the parts you need are unavailable, as they can be in todays parts-shortage-USA we now live in.

I have no problem with making tractors burn cleaner, but can’t they make it reliable? Why not have twin sensors, so when one fails, there’s a backup? Or make them easily accessible and give the owner spares? Or just build them better in the first place, so less expense in downtime & parts?

I guess like everything mechanical, owners experiences differ. After 100s of thousands of miles on my VW tdi and Dodge Cummins, I’ve never experienced a problem with DEF/DPF.

So you have the same fuel consumption between the L275 and the L3301? That's pretty decent, I'd like to see what the difference in fuel economy would be on a modern common rail without the emissions systems.

I know my truck picked up about 2-3mpg after doing a simple delete.

I keep hearing that. So it's Ok to make them more fuel efficient, as long as you can keep spewing as much crap into the air as you want?

Once every 60+ hours for 10-15 minutes. Don’t be so dramatic.

Huh? When I got my tractor the regeneration cycle was once every 8-12 hours and then my tractor got stuck in limp-home mode because the engine couldn't get warm enough to regenerate and clogged up. The field upgrade on Tier IV fleet diesels is to install warmer thermostats so the things can warm up enough to work. Everybody hates the emissions. Everybody.

As a professor of rhetoric would remind us, your particular is not universal, as per the Square of Opposition.

I don't hate them, seriously. I like clean air and I remember the smog in my city in the 70's and it was terrible. The levels were even reported on the news. I know people who live in the country never experienced that, so perspective is different.

My Branson has manual regen and I am at 74 hours and it has not asked for it yet. We'll see what my AC does, it has egr, doc and dpf. It only has 19 hours as of yet and it has not even got to the first stripe (there is a bar gauge for the dpf)

My current F250 has ~140k issue free, seems to regen every 375 to 500 miles. My old F350 has over 200k issue free miles but it does not get driven much anymore.

I understand, for working farmers down time sucks. But stuff breaks in every profession and needs to be dealt with. It comes with the territory. Edited: if you want to see what I said see the quote below but it is irrelevant . I like clean air and water.

I think in the early days the systems were poorly designed. I think most manufacturers have a handle on it now and design well working long lasting systems. As I said in another thread issues are expensive with these systems so it tends to get people riled up. You don't hear people moaning about a broken alternator because it's cheap and easy, but they still break

FWIW I am not a tree hugger, I vote mostly republican especially national races. The only difference is I like clean air and water.
Wow... just wow...
