That's right. When the output shaft from the tractor is straight in line with the input shaft on the implement, the drive shaft would be at its most compressed/ overlapped position. Question~ when your attachment is all the way down, are the shafts in line with one another? Say the wood chipper is sitting on the ground already and can't go any lower anyway? If so, the only way to go is up thus raising the shaft on the implement and at the same time extending the shaft. So you would be right.Hmm. I dunno. I read things like this and I am convinced again that the shortest distance is when the two splines are in line with each other.
Also, when I use any 3 pt implement, I remove my drawbar since I can't pull anything with the implement in the way, and if it's not there, it can't get hit. Not to mention I only have to remove 1 pin for drawbar removal.
