Did I mess up the measurements on my PTO cut?

Hmm. I dunno. I read things like this and I am convinced again that the shortest distance is when the two splines are in line with each other.

That's right. When the output shaft from the tractor is straight in line with the input shaft on the implement, the drive shaft would be at its most compressed/ overlapped position. Question~ when your attachment is all the way down, are the shafts in line with one another? Say the wood chipper is sitting on the ground already and can't go any lower anyway? If so, the only way to go is up thus raising the shaft on the implement and at the same time extending the shaft. So you would be right.
Also, when I use any 3 pt implement, I remove my drawbar since I can't pull anything with the implement in the way, and if it's not there, it can't get hit. Not to mention I only have to remove 1 pin for drawbar removal.

I have to lift it some for the splines to be inline and the drawbar will definitely be a problem when the shaft is installed so that will get removed.

Those are better directions for sure. The first option is similar to what WoodMaxx uses and the second option is what I pretty much see everywhere else on the interwebs.

On a related matter what is everyone using to lubricate the PTO shaft? I know there are zerks where I am going to use my lithium grease but use that on the shaft as well? Or use something else like a WD-40 gel

I use 00 grease on the shaft and keep it covered when nothing is hooked up, to prevent it from getting dirty.
You'll get varying opinions on what to use but in time you will find what works best for you.
I need something which doesn't harden in winter. In Alabama, you probably don't worry much about that.
