Should I trade my L2501

It was also used in the L3240, but unless you change the gearing for the PTO to let the engine run it at a higher RPM you most likely won't see that much of a power increase.
You'd really have to pull the power graphs for the version of the engine you are changing the timing and fueling to in order to get an idea of output at the 2200rpm rated pto speed of the L2501.

the pto is where i saw the most gain @ 1900-2100. my 5' bush hog cuts 1"-2" privet like a blade of grass. i work the snot outta my l2501 doing heavy ground work. current tractor operating weight is ~4000#... with the extra HP and torque i need more weight now. not gonna argue about dyno, graphs and gearing... but after ~300 hours on a stock l2501 vs 30 hrs on the mod D1703, its night and day!
maybe trade that b2620 in on l2501 and find out for yourself.

You definitely will pick up some power with those mods, I'm just saying without increasing rpm you still won't see full potential.
I looked into the buying a L2501 a few years ago, to the point of finding out the part numbers to to change the gearing for the PTO so I could run the engine at a higher rpm. The other advantage of the higher rpm is it would have more hyd flow, which I found a little disappointing on the 2501 at times.

I ended up getting a L3240 instead but it has the D1703 engine also and weighs over 6000lbs but rated engine speed is 2700rpm and has a gross output of 34hp.

Just curious. How many shims did you find under your injection pump? How close were you able to get the .0030 that you needed to get the proper timing adjustment? How difficult was it to get to the fuel adjustment screw? Did you increase the rpm's?

i had a 0.25mm (1 hole) and a 0.20 mm (2 hole) shim.... i removed the 0.25 shim.
the fuel adjustment screw took about 5 min with a dremel, just use a cutoff wheel to make a slit, then pry apart with a flathead. current setting is @ 1/4 turn out.
i have not increased the rpm's yet. i messaged the youtuber, he set his @ 2650 rpm.

You should post your setting on the Netmagi Youtube. He didn't have a benchmark about his fuel screw adjustment.

Here’s the progress I’ve been making with my L2501 Turbo setup;

Please forgive the duct tape, the silicone couplers and hose clamps are expected to arrive tomorrow.

We’re working on the down pipe now.

Aside from a small fueling adjustment, this turbo setup will be a complete bolt-on and operate within the OEM RPM range without any modifications. It should produce 45-50HP…and definitely cost less than the price difference of a L3901/L3902 and should be less than even a L3301/L3302.

We made one rookie mistake on the intake charge pipe, we didn’t account for the hood prop-rod/absorber. So, we’ll have to redesign that pipe in the near future. Shouldn’t be a big issue.

I’ll have the tractor back on the property tomorrow and should have some time to run it around on Sunday. I’ll start making fuel adjustments next week.
