Gotcha. I had envisioned something upright.

That's a battle I'm about to have again, as I am about to have a gravel road graded. the culvert is set well below the road surface; yet every year he takes a little bit off the top, and a little bit more off the top... after a few years he's grading the top of the culvert off. He's an experienced operator, it seems like he should know what he's doing.
Yeah, I didn't know what a tinhorn was either. Regional term maybe?

Could the culvert pipe itself be working its way upward every year with frost? Seen that happen a lot when they are only a couple feet down to begin with.

Guess we all learn something new everyday. Have never heard them called anything else besides tin horns. Must be a Southern thing lol.

County guys down here think everything between the fences is theirs even though the right of way is about half of that. Next time fences are replaced they are goin' to the right of way. We had pulled the fences back from it years ago, because county wanted to work on drainage but the people there have changed since then.
We have the same issue, I'll be fencing the road frontage in the next couple of years (as $$$ are available) and will right up on the road. Seems to be the only way to get the county crew to NOT cut or doze everything. I want a brush/tree line to catch the dust and limit views from the road.

More like drive over the ends in the ditch.

Good way to go to jail or at least get sued for causing injury or death.
Yah. do it at night, wear leather gloves, don't tell anyone, don't cut yourself, or leave scraps of clothing or anything behind, and don't forget to act surprised when you see it. No smirking when the tourists end up in the ditch~!!

Eagle says leave the cell phone home. Don't want 'em triangulating you. Maybe leave the thing a few miles away and have your spouse make a call using it.

Leave cell phone at home or somewhere far away. Watching cops shows, it seems all crimes solved are due to cell phone location data. I don't own a cell phone so google may know my internet movements but not my physical movements.

I don't worry much about getting caught in a crime. ;)

I make sure my phone keeps a record of everywhere I go, just incase my doppelganger comes to town and does some bad stuff.

Pitch large rocks into the road by large I mean 8 - 10 inches diameter. Pitch 'em all over the place in a random pattern. The locals will drive around 'em the tourists will be horrified and turn around.
Could just lay 6" saplings across the road in several places.
I am so glad I do not live near you.

At least your situation is hired out and you can correct it easily enough. County guys down here think everything between the fences is theirs even though the right of way is about half of that. Get some of the fiberglass right of way markers and place them on the right of way. If you calll your county commissioner, you might get the county to install them.

They would literally mow or grade right over them. They already do that to pipeline markers. As far as the county commissioner doin' anything, it's a good ol' boys club and I ain't in it.

Sorry to hear about the old boys club. I have lived in a couple areas like that, ranging from the annoying to worse. I haven't ever found a productive way around it.

I'm not saying that moving the fence isn't a good solution for your issues, but here folks veer off our local road often enough that I don't mind my fences being back 5-6' from the road. Often times, we look at the accident site and scratch our heads as to how they managed to veer/lose control in that location, as the road isn't exactly interstate straightaways...

All the best,

Peter

Not sure being set back makes a difference, my daughter launched her jeep into a cattle pasture. Had t-post holes in the hood and roof. Playing on the phone....... Made her drive that thing for another year or 2.

Living on a dead end road is nice.

We also have a camp that's not on a dead end road..how ever one of the top priorities when buying this place was that it couldn't be a short cut in any way possible. We see maybe 4 cars on it each day on a nice holiday weekend. And that's 3hrs from NYC.

That's the way that our camp road was while growing up 50 years ago. At that time you could drive through, but needed something with good ground clearance. That has since changed so that you can't get through. However, there also have been subdivisions put in up beyond the pond; and those are the people who are the worst transgressors.

So back to the topic at hand. I posted earlier about I also had increased traffic on our township road. I had talked to our county engineer, who I know, she used to be my boss. She later on was at a meeting and talked to other county engineers about the issue. It appears it happens all over the place, they all have similar problems. One person even said they have a low narrow viaduct, all sorts of warning signs and even flashing lights. They still have semi trucks get wedged in. Long story short, they probably aren’t going to do anything.

I have also played with different nav. apps. There are settings for no tollways, shortest, and a new one, most efficient. I can’t help but wonder if the most efficient translates to roads that wouldn’t have gotten used before.
