Looks very good but definitely some good ole' fashion hard work. At least you have two good supervisors :)

I would rather rather mow an established trail than use a string trimmer. Looks nice though.

This had a flail go over it a month ago. . I'd rather use a mower too but the stems and shoots it leaves aren't fun to walk on. How tall of marterial does your mower leave on th ground?

After it has been mowed for about 3 years, there shouldn't be much that is coarse growing up through it.

The problem I have isn't the trail itself, it is the honeysuckle and silverleaf that reach out for the sunlight. Hard to mow stuff that is 3-7 feet high coming across the trail.

That is normal for trees to grow towards the light. We need to cut trees waaaaaay back to keep them from being pulled into the trails with snow.

Overhanging branches is a good reason to use a pole saw. I'd still rather use a mower than a string trimmer on a grassy trail.

Looks like we'll be back at our trails and clearing them on Saturday afternoon. Also wanted to post that after many, many hours or use, I'm quite happy with these MCU06 Makita mini saws. I'll give them a 4 start rating on Amazon but I would give them a 5, if the motors had a better duty cycle. These are being largely used as limbing and small tree tools.
