Just picked up a new (used) twin tank air compressor. I have to put it up in the center of the truck bed and can’t reach old school pull start without climbing up into bed.

Would like to add electric start and have starter button wired over into side tool box so I can just drop side box lid, push button and start

Anyone added electric start kit?

Not to a Honda, but we added one to a Briggs many years ago that was very straightforward. That one had a battery that you had to charge every so often, as it had no alternator.

The flywheel housing may or may not already be milled and tapped to accept an additional coil to keep the battery charged...most of the kits I've seen come with the coils...

How about adding an old delco-remy starter/generator to a pulley bolted to the side of the driven pulley? Just a thought...

Done the drill trick but never added an actual starter.

Rear view of compressor in bed of truck. Not a lot of room to stand in truck and pull cord. Would like to mount switch inside of toolbox

I like what you are saying. Can you expand on that?
Did you do the install? Any machining required?

Check the mini-bike and go-cart forums/sites...those guys do all kinds of mods to both Honda and (HF) Predator engines...the same parts that fit a Honda will fit the HF engines...both custom and performance parts...

It was a complete bolt on kit. Was easy and included all the parts. I bought mine on eBay.

Did the kit include a charging circuit for the starter battery?

The kits I found say they don’t include any instructions. I could probably figure it out without instructions, but they would help

Some do some do not. You have to read the enclosed items or pictures. Mine did not come with instructions but you tube and several web sites can help. Hardest part was getting old flywheel off.

Looks pretty straight forward.

Does the existing flywheel have ring gear for starter? If not then you will need a new flywheel.

If run a line from the hitch coupler charging line to a battery for the compressor, you wouldn't need a charging circuit on the compressor.
$80 is not bad for the kit and looks pretty simple. What about choke?

Does anyone know if the flywheels without the ring gear still have a place to mount a charging coil? I don't need electric start, but I do need to be able to keep a 12V battery topped off. Wondering if it's possible to add a low-amperage coil to an existing engine with no electrical system.
