Sure hope they cleaned everything up for the next morning inspection ! Did they have the vacuum style sanding equipment ? It really makes a big difference in keeping the dust down. I take a broom and sweep the walls and ceilings to knock down the clinging dust. Then come back with a sponge mop that's just wet enough to wipe away the remaining dust. There is no easy way to do it ! Make sure that the finish mud coat is completely dry before wanting to put the paint on everything. At least you got another big hurdle cleared....

It’s a mess to clean up. Sweep the walls then wipe with damp sponges.
Today’s rain is a good day for that.

Do not pay until it's how it's supposed to be. Do not fall for the lie that they will come back and fix it. Do not assume that they care about your house, or what they are doing. They want your money and nothing else. Bring a roll of blue tape and inspect every wall, from every angle, with a very bright flashlight. The big builders will have an inspector do this before paying the drywall crew, they expect it. They will also lie to you about nobody doing this, but it happens all the time.

Can't remember but am thinking you are going for a smooth finish? I guess that would explain all the dust.

In our house the smoothest rooms are popcorn finish. I know this will sound silly. We didn't have any dust issues. Wife and I cleaned up after them. In my memory, we didn't have two dust pans full of sandings in the entire house. They were extremely accurate and tidy in their mud applications.

We were Blessed.

Be careful. Inspect the walls closely. From the excessive dust it sounds like they used electric sanders on the walls. If they got over zealous they could have fuzzed the paper on the drywall. If they did getting a smooth flat finish will require hard work and extra primer and paint.

The cleanup was not in the contract. The contract was a handshake.
I started cleaning yesterday and my shop vac acted up so I drove into the valley and got another.
Then got called for work(I am on call this week).
Jefanna and I got back in there late yesterday and started working on the dust. We will be back later today (I am working another IT issue for my job). Gonna meet the drywall guy Monday so that works out a bit. So far I was quite pleased with the work. There is some fuzz on some of the paper. We will be priming and applying an eggshell paint so I think it will work out fine. As for the finish I was going for, I know nothing about drywall finish. I would recognize Venetian plaster, popcorn and everything else looks like flat finish to me.

Most people including me go for flat finish on the walls and matching satin finish for painted wooden trim.

I'm not a fan of flat paint on a wall, it sucks up the light too much. Eggshell and satin paint are the most common that I see in my area. But we also texture our walls here, and the only homes that I've seen a smooth finish are in the really old mansions that used plaster over lathe on their walls. Most of them are covered in wallpaper.

Flat will hide any imperfections the best, but eggshell gives you the best of both worlds. It doesn't reflect very much light, but still gives you a nice finish.

We tried a sample of flat. Went to satin.

Wife was looking at paint this evening when we went to the store. She is leaning toward satin. I am gonna insist we put up a sample of each to compare. It is odd. Jefanna wants to fight me on this. Just wants to pick one and go. She is in too much of a hurry. Wants to get to the next step before doing this one.
