Chicken and the egg

EPA sets gas can regulations
Gas cans need some sort of flame arrestor for people that like to pour gas on a fire.
Turns out not many people pour gas on a fire.
Turns out more people get hurt from the vapors igniting from an indirect source.
Blitz says, but the vapors are the real issue not the flame arrestor.
The lawyers say the EPA only mandated flame arrestors.
Blitz...but but the issue is vapors.
Judge. Pay Blitz. the law says you must have arrestors.

The real issue was never addressed.
EPA didn't mandate flame arrestors until 11 years after Blitz went out of business.

Blitz had those push button valves that would break and gas would come out of the valve and go everywhere. Everyone I had broke.

Spill proof was the OG flame arrestor. Same function. The lawyers refined the name.

So Mossie gets to mention the governmental authority of the Federal agency, the (EPA) and comment on them and their actions but my two posts with articles from groups aligned in a non-partisan way with ranchers and landowners challenging the overreach of the EPA gets deleted because "political". We all see the double standard in action almost daily around here.

So here is another attempt to show an area where the EPD should be rebalanced to do the job it was intended to do without getting way past reasonable like they have with the fuel cans issue. This is not a political issue - people on both sides own property and are involved with the Farm Bureau and other organizations which oppose the EPA over reach on the WOTUS rules.

You posted links to "Biden era" policy and another post talking about how the EPA has gone too far left. Please report posts by "Mossie" that include political commentary and I'll delete them.

There is only one standard. There are many mentions of the EPA in this thread without throwing in some political opinions.

Here's a nice video from a fuel can manufacturer that shows how a gas can without and with a flame mitigation device works. Pretty interesting.

All it appears to be is a plastic screen in the can that they say creates a 'too rich mixture' so the fuel in the can isn't able to ignite. Simple and elegant. Doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and it works, even when people do stupid things.

If this video had been the first post in this thread, the entire discussion might well have taken a different perspective. It looks pretty impressive that the flame mitigation device in the video stopped the gas can from acting like a flame thrower.

One of these days "they" may realize - you can not legislate STUPID away.
Nah, never happen. The two words you used, "legislate" and "STUPID" are 2 words that should be in the same sentence only when using one to describe the other. I was in the local farm supply store a few days ago and saw where 5-gallon red plastic gas jugs are up to almost $50 now. This new "safety device" will probably push the price to $75 or more. Then, just as everyone gets converted over, they will outlaw gasoline. I'm sure glad I bought 10 of them during the last ice storm 15 years ago for $11 each, and spent another $5 for 10 vent caps that installed in a 1/2" hole I drilled on the flat spot that manufacturers still put on the handle. When they outlaw gasoline, they will still be good for hauling moonshine.

After reading this thread AND having past issues, I ordered a Just Right TYPE 2, 1" nozzle can. Almost made me cry to pay that much, but I keep multiple 5 gallon containers here. Also ordered an adjustable bar for the pickup to keep them (as was with my plastic cans) from sliding around. Now, if I can just get fuel and come straight home, I should be okay (round trip about 40 miles). I am already concerned about hauling these and stopping at another business, and someone steals them. May have to chain lock them?

I had not realized or considered. the spark dangers. Hopefully, the new can is a permanent solution ?

It took me that long to find it. There are many videos of gas cans without the flame mitigation device. I had to keep watching them until I found one that showed a before and after.

I searched after you posted the video to see if there were any other pertinent videos on flame arrestors. 99% of the videos are about converting no spill cans into free flowing cans.

Hard to say how much of the price of a gas can is inflation and how much is due to products liability insurance cost.
