Hadn't thought of it, but dogs have such a keen sense of smell that it could be so.
I wouldn't have expected it to happen, but two of the most affectionate cats we ever had started off as untamed ferals. This one showed up at the barn. Ran away from any contact, but showed up at the house thin and hungry with four kittens a few months later. My wife found homes for the kittens pretty easily, but no one wanted the mama because she was so feral and hostile. Took about six months of taming, but she is now a very affectionate cat.
