For small engines (chain saws, trimmers etc) I mix fuel as I use it. I have have a couple 20 ounce bottles. When one goes empty I measure out 1/2 oz of oil, using a cattle syringe (that I plugged the hole where the needle goes) and dump it in the bottle then fill it with non-ethanol gas. That gives me a 40/1 ratio which has worked fine over the years in all of my small two stroke engines. I use Amsoil because I have it laying around for my 2 stroke motorcycles, but I certainly wouldn't want to get into a pointless, highly prejudiced discussion of what oil is "best". Heck, Walmart's Super Tech 2-stroke oil works fine if that's what you want to use.
If I am mixing a large amount. I have a chart on my tool box that tells me how many oz to put in for how many gallons at different ratios. I use one of my several cheap graduated containers to measure the oil. When I rode dirt bikes all the time I kept a graduated container in a zip lock bag under the seat of my truck along with a quart of oil. If my tool box isn't there (which happens occasionally) I use the calculator on my phone to figure it out. Other than having to remember that there are 128 oz per gallon, none of this is rocket science or in need of special tricks.
