What's Your Favourite 2 Stroke Oil Mix Tool

For small engines (chain saws, trimmers etc) I mix fuel as I use it. I have have a couple 20 ounce bottles. When one goes empty I measure out 1/2 oz of oil, using a cattle syringe (that I plugged the hole where the needle goes) and dump it in the bottle then fill it with non-ethanol gas. That gives me a 40/1 ratio which has worked fine over the years in all of my small two stroke engines. I use Amsoil because I have it laying around for my 2 stroke motorcycles, but I certainly wouldn't want to get into a pointless, highly prejudiced discussion of what oil is "best". Heck, Walmart's Super Tech 2-stroke oil works fine if that's what you want to use.

If I am mixing a large amount. I have a chart on my tool box that tells me how many oz to put in for how many gallons at different ratios. I use one of my several cheap graduated containers to measure the oil. When I rode dirt bikes all the time I kept a graduated container in a zip lock bag under the seat of my truck along with a quart of oil. If my tool box isn't there (which happens occasionally) I use the calculator on my phone to figure it out. Other than having to remember that there are 128 oz per gallon, none of this is rocket science or in need of special tricks.

Well, most of Stihl commercial saws, other than the 881 and the smaller climbing saws are M-tronic, so limiter caps aren't going to be an issue. ;)

I do think they (the older, non-m-tronics) come from the factory with a pretty lean tune (for emissions) and can't say I don't think opening them up and giving them a proper tune is a bad thing.

I don't own any Echos currently, but my next saw will likely be one (a CS-2511T) and I think they represent some pretty good value. I'm not done with Stihl though. I think they have some pretty good products out there and while prices have gone up (like everything) I don't think it's comparatively exorbitant.

When you can buy a comparable Echo for 1/2 to 2/3rds the cost of a Stihl, the Stihl's become second choice. I don't care for Stihl's Mtronic fuel delivery or whatever it's called, just like I don't want a post 4 tractor. The more complex any tool becomes, the higher the failure rate becomes and the more expensive replacement parts become.

I saved the small 50\1 for 10 liters of gas [picked up a 10 liter can when l got the first one] l got when l got my saw and trimer new, opened and marked where the oil was to [on a level area], buy bulk and fill to that mark put in the can, put a little fuel stabilizer in to get all the oil out and put it in the can, only have to do it 2 or 3 times a year, has been working for 14 years both run good

Graduated cylinders are what you need, get the plastic ones with the desired markings ml or oz.

They're inexpensive and I carry a couple in my truck to measure out the diesel additive I use when filling up.

We’ve tried many different 2-stroke mixing tools and containers! Until I hung up my racing leathers, we ran 2-stroke GP bikes, karts and I still run the tools at home. I have found the “Accu-Mix” to be the best all-in-one mixing and storage container out there. It will mix in any ratio from 15:1 to 50:1 and has a nominal capacity of 6 Liters which is in your range. It’s setup as molded dual connected containers, one side with markings for the oil and the other for the gas, also w same markings. Just fill each side to the appropriate ratio for that particular volume you choose (you can make as little as half liter), and then put caps on and mix.

I like the Amsoil and the Stihl Ultra no smoke and I usually only mix 2 1/2 gallon at a time using the old small 2 1/2 gallon mix bottle to measure

I like it, thanks!

Seems like the KTM dealer up by our cottage (who I used to do some ice racing with) sells these. I'll definitely be stopping by next time to grab one.

I've tried the Stihl twice. For some reason my equipment did not like it even with non-ethanol fuel. Not sure why I even mentioned it to the dealer. I use RedMax's synthetic in all my equipment for several years now after actually pouring out the Stihl Ultra. I know my experience is not typical.

I used to have a lid for my ratio rite but it didn't come with the cup, I had to buy it separately. I lost the lid so now I stretch an old sock over the top when it's on the shelf.

If I recall, that's marked at the 1/2 ounce level. Are you just guessing to get the required amount if it's not right on a 1/2 ounce increment?
It has US oz. measurements on one side and European ml. on the other, at least the larger ones I have.
