What spray lube do you like?

PB Blaster for stuck things. A variety of spray lubes depending on the application including white lithium and LPS. I use WD40 occasionally but most often as a cleaning solvent for gunk (or carb cleaner or brake cleaner depending). It is supposedly one of the best lube for machining aluminum, but I haven't had the need.

Slick 50 works great

No, Krown.

I have my vehicles sprayed with it for rust control and no bolts are ever seized on them.

Plus you can get different formulations in can. For rust prevention, penetrating oil, safe on electronics, etc.

We get 6 months of salt and de-icing chemicals on the roads here and it has proven itself to me.
How much is the Krown spray in Soo ? We bought a new Jeep and thought I might try a rust spray place this fall. Do they drill or use existing holes ?

I can't remember exactly, but I get that salt elimintor wash before the oil spray and I think it is around $150 for a truck or SUV.

They drill some holes where needed. But they've always done a nice neat job.

White lithium and fluid film
wd 40 now and then, more of a habit I guess

It depends on what I'm using it for and how close it is at hand. I've had good results with

PB Blaster (primarily loosening stuck fasteners)
Kroil (all around)
Corrosion X
T-9 Boeshield
Fluid Film (primarily as a protectant)

I don't use WD40 as a lubricant, I do use it for cleaning, degreasing type tasks

The Project Farm guy did a video on this for YouTube. The results were pretty interesting as I recall, but I don't remember which product was the winner.

Liquid Wrench (1) and Acetone/ATF (2), were the top two winners on the Project Farm test of penetrating lubricants.

I have a squeeze bottle of paint thinner mixed 1/4 with acetone. I used it while wearing gloves as a cleaner before i paint things. I'd say this is the chemical I use the most but its not penetrate to loosen frozen things.

Here, if I can drip on it, it gets Liquid Wrench, out of the old metal can with the plastic spout. Everyone has one. Heck, your grandfather used this stuff.

If it needs to be sprayed, it gets PB Blaster. Not sure it's the best stuff on earth, but I've been using it for 30 years, and old habits die hard.

WD40 is used for spraying on the fertilizer spreader and my tractor's 3-point ball joints after wash-down, which happens after using the fertilizer spreader. Many of the fertilizers I use are corrosive, and a quick wash-down, dry, and spray with WD40 has always done a good job of keeping rust at bay without making a gooey mess of things.

I remember that also. I can’t remember the winner but I’m pretty sure the WD40 did well. It got a bad rap but I’m not sure why.

Any of you ever hear of a product called Mouse Milk? ( Real name of product) It is as effective or better than acetone and ATF and was developed for aeronautic industry. It is the best penetrating oil I have ever used on rusted bolts and nuts. It is expensive but you can buy it online. Rusted rotary cutter blade bolts? Put a few drops on the nut and let it sit for 24 hours. A friend recommended it and I thought he was joking. He was not. W Jones

Never heard of it. But that aside, I'm going to be at least a little alarmed if you tell me any aviation mechanic has much experience with rusted bolts!

I just tried this the other day. My son-in-law was a heavy diesel mechanic and now a mill-right and he swore by this and got me a can to try.

I can't give any scientific details as it's the first time I tried it, but it did get the rear wheels off my Allis Chalmers that I have never had off or used the power-adjust rims.

Good comment about the aviation rusting. My friend actually used the term "cold weld" to describe bonding of the metals that occurred. All I can say is I have had good luck with the product. W Jones
