Buying Advice Cab or no cab?

/ Cab or no cab? #261
That cage was done by my neighbor's welding company. They apparently do underbelly protection as well. Next time I see him I'll ask about the cage. My guess is that it was requested by the customer. I suppose it adds weight, but rather top heavy, I would think. He usually runs a skid steer on his place, but his FIL next door has an 8N or something similar. None of my neighbors have cabs.

It would be interesting to hear about what motivated the customer to ask for this amount of protective cage. I've never seen that much protection added to a tractor before.

Underbelly pans can be simple or complex depending on whether there is anything to easily bolt them to.

Once it cools off (heat index 116 degrees yesterday here), I'll be fabricating a grill guard and something to protect the MX hydraulic line/filter. And a canopy to keep the sun off me.

Willing to bet it's a skidder tractor.

The contractors that preform power line ROW maintenance run tractors that look similar to that. They usually have a full cage like that, a complete bottom skid pan, foam filled tires and run a heavy duty mulching rated cutter. The power line work isn’t done very frequently and it’s a lot more serious work than just mowing grass beside the road way.

So you've gotten lucky.
"Lesser" brands do not have much to do w anything as far as repair but if something goes wrong with any brand tractor, would you want a dealer with their thumbs up you know where or one that is fully knowledgeable and close by to be able to "support" the breakdown?
Also, the word "dealer support" does not only apply to repair.
Some bring their tractors in for hourly servicing as well.
"Dealer support" can also encompass the purchasing of expendables or going there and talking with a rep or technician or a tech coming to your place for simple fixes.
Not everyone is handy with a tool in their hands.
Congrats on not having your tractor to be trailered back to the dealer where a delivery fee of $200 is not usurped by a dealer 200 miles away.
May you experience continued success but you do know you may have just haunted yourself :)
I don’t think it has anything to do with luck. The first tractor we had on this farm (a John Deere model M that my grandad bought new to replace a team of horses in 1950) has not needed much “dealer support” either:

So what was it then when my JD 750 split a 4wd front housing from a poor casting?
Or a split cast steering knuckle? Or a jumped snap ring on its rockshaft? Or a broken power steering pivot?
You have any of these issues?
Or was I just "unlucky"?

What you have there, was actually made by a foreign manufacturer, almost in its entirety. They make very good engines (JD still uses them on their smaller machines), but struggled a bit on the rest of the parts.

Personally, I’m thankful to not own any of those, but my dad does have similar model 770. I had the misfortune of operating it a few weeks ago, when I used it to cultipack a turnip patch over at his place. It has also had some steering issues, but otherwise has been trouble-free. I find the operators platform to be rather cramped, as if it was designed for “smaller” average sized people - like those from the Far East where it originated.

Probably a good guess given we live in a forest.

oh, and you will not likely convince a xenophobic, racist that other countries make good things...or that parts for all brands come from all over.

My stuff that I keep unused in storage doesn't break down either. Hahaha

This sounds a lot like you are delivering a personal attack against me here. I love all people and will add you to my prayer list. Clearly you are troubled and bitter.
