Same thing here in northern N.H. Last few winters have been kind of wimpy compared to even 10 years ago, both in snowfall and temperatures. I won't complain about not getting above zero for a couple weeks at a time, but I do like snow. When my current snowmobile dies I don't plan to replace it...way too much money for something I can only use a couple months a year.
if you don't need to go far and fast, a tracked atv might have more use for you. Not cheaper than a sled but are not reliant on snow depth.

Around here if you want descent sledding it's a 4 hour trip to the mountains. Then at the end of the day it's 4 hours back.

If this summers record rainfall is an indicator, we could be in for a good walloping of white stuff. Much welcomed in the Northeast.

Use in the north central Ontario we had a very dry summer, even now it is still very dry for the time, we could use a lot more rain.

They analyze the last 100 years of weather patterns and apparently they is no correlation between summer weather to winter prediction. It is true that meteorologist don't like these kinda prediction they can't predict the next 14 days imagine how embarrassing it would be if the Almanac farmers would have it right all the time.

I need to get one of these to mount my SSQA snowplow to my Euro QA tractor. $1,000 I didnt want to spend.

Man I want a plow truck!

For me the tractor is much more efficient than a plow truck. My F250 plow truck has been relegated to backup duty for the last 10 years, and it very rarely gets used.
My plow route is very tight at less than a mile radius, so there's not much need for the truck.

I have the same scenario, but I still like the comfortable ride and faster speed of the plow truck. I can also use it for pulling trailer of mowers for mowing duty in the summer.

Found this for pretty cheap, but I just don’t have the $ right now. Too many “irons in the fire”.

Not necessarily, I don't hate the crap but I sure don't look forward to it.
It's just a fact that it happens and has to be taken care of.

Snow on the ground and deep cold a few weeks is less bugs in the warmer weather.
This was a bad year for bugs, swarms of everything.

I just sent out all my snowplow estimates. hasn’t snowed here in 2 years, so I don’t know if customers are really paying attention.

One winter in the future, we are going to get clobbered.

No snow and deep penetrating cold works even better for that purpose. The snow is quite an insulator, especially in the woods with thick leaf mulch. Even in January and February if you swipe your hand down into the leaf mold in the woods the ground will not be frozen. We need a harsh winter for a couple in a row to kill of the bugs and larvae, cold temps and no snow to drive the frost down into the ground.

The dirt never freezes here either, gets stiff but you can plow it right up. Doesn't freeze here due to snow covered.

Wife and I bought new-to-us X-country skis, poles and boots this spring from the local County Park annual sale. Our old ones were in pretty rough shape, and there are no longer any shops locally to do any work on them. We only got to go one time last winter, and it was only about 4" of snow. Hopefully we'll get some use out of them this year.

The last few years of relatively mild winters have done a number on the moose population because it hasn't been cold enough to kill off the ticks. The moose are so infested with them, they're literally scraping their skin off trying to scratch.

Yes, it's going to take a couple of old fashioned winters to set the vermin back a bit. I would like to see that happen but I sure as heck would not look forward to 50 and 60 winters. Seemed like every winter in Jan. or Feb. we'ed get a week or ten days of extreme cold. Never above freezing and sub zero every night, with the frost getting driven deep into the ground. I can recall having a hard time scrapping the manure spreader clean so it wouldn't be froze in the morning. Getting inside and barring the chains free of the bottom of the spreader, running it empty to be sure it would work, loading it and getting right out to spread it before it froze in the spreader. Cleaning out the drinking bowls for the cows and having skim ice in them, going around and stacking hay bales in all the openings into the barns to keep the cow heat in and prevent water lines from freezing. Shoveling out the barn cleaner and freeing it's chains and paddles before turning it on.
They were not fun weeks.

So true Lou!
After the first few days in the teens you're
reminded of how many things you do (outside) in the course of a day that becomes impossible or at least adds difficulty and time to something you don't even think about when it's 33*. 😆

here is most of our skis, but not all. There might be 6 pairs missing.View attachment 827860
Nice selection! (y)

All I have above my rafters are ladders, spare pipes, a couple pole saws, a fruit picker basket on a pole, and a few boards. 🙃
