CLANGING in the front diff of brand new T494....what the heck

Just a thought, but if they bring you a loaner while they fix your tractor it may give them the impetus to fix your tractor faster, and even if it doesn't get fixed faster at least you will have a tractor to get work done. Maybe you should insist on a loner.

Thanks everyone.

They denied my request for a loaner.

I imagine just the cost of fuel and driver for 12-14 hour round trip is enough at this point...plus they will have to do it again to get it back. They do seem very curious to find out what is going on as they say they have never had an issue like this before and they sell hundreds of tractors per year.

Im glad the dealer is going to take care of it but I would press them about the hours it had on it when you bought it. A lot can be done in 8 hours unless it was just sitting there idling or something and their story sounds like BS. All the tractors I looked at at my dealer had less than an hour on the meters. Mine had .5 hours on it when it was delivered, I would consider 8 hours a used machine.

^2 true statements.

This problem is highly unusual.

The dealer has some 'splaining to do.

I Hope it is just the circlip slid on the driveline and allowing the coupler to slip off the splines an hour fix at most and then they clean up the little things get a better spring or new seat. and the other non major things.

Plenty of people really like the TYM's if they get it fixed to new spec and then several happy years of service despite a bit rough out of the Gate a Cab sure is nice it is snowing here as I write.

tractor....thanks. I was really hoping that would be our experience as well. I did tell my dad when we were getting ready to do the deal "you know it is always possible we might get a lemon, at least with the century/branson we know what we have." We could get a lemon with kubota or any of them for that matter. The risk of moving to something different than the old proven machine in the shed is there no matter what.

My dad just had his heart so dead set on owning 1 thing brand new in his life before he passed, I could not tell him no. (he has never even had a new car, bike or anything...always used) so when he wanted that to be a tractor, I had to do my best to try. He has been on daily chemo for a long time and is slipping fast now. That is the other factor...we don't have a lot of time left to make this dream a reality. It's just horrible that it has turned into this nightmare.

Social media. Create an account for everything TYM has a presence on, tell your story, tag them and if you can tag the dealer too.

Perception is reality on the internet; you and your father ought to give them the chance to make it right, but if they don't, scorched earth.

Do I typically recommend emotional manipulation as a means to an end? No; but I think this is justified, and your father deserves to park his rear in the cab of a comfortable, reliable, and new tractor. That TYM should have been all of those things, and no one here would have recommended them if it wasn't for all the positives that have been shared here.

Thanks Karl, I put this back story in an email and sent it to the dealer just now. He reached right back out to thank me for the information and then again a few minutes later to advise they are coming to get it N/C and get it back to their shop where they can figure out what is going on.

No timeline yet for pickup but at least they are talking about it now.

So, some progress being made

I suppose I should have read further before making my last post, but hey, I got my feathers ruffled on behalf of your father. 😉

Update...tractor picked up today. Received text from driver when he got back to the shop at 11 pm tonight..he left at 6am this morning so a lot of hours driving.

Before we loaded it up, we put the bucket back down to lift up the front wheels...now both front wheels are "locked" just like you have it in diff lock 4WD on an atv. When we tested it before the front end was a limited slip diff...if you held 1 wheel you could still turn the other.

I am not sure if when you out it in diff lock if it locks all (4) or just the rear tires...but regardless, we took it in and out of AWD and diff lock and nothing we did could free up the front axle...both left and right front wheels are LOCKED together.

Something is certainly not right.

As and aside...do the TYM 494 have indicators on the dash for 4WD? Tractor is gone so I cannot look.
