I think I just found a set of 4 or 6 matching 9x22.5…..
Maybe there’s hope afterall.

Then I got to wondering (this is where I put myself in danger)…

If the 9” x 22.5” wheels have a thicker flange than 8.25” wheels, I wonder if the wheel studs are proud enough for aluminum wheels???

Funny you mention that. Aluminum rims are much more common and “standard” on trucks than they were 20 years ago. The lighter weight saves fuel, too.

When I look at my wheel studs, there seems to be enougha thread left, but man those aluminum rim flanges are like 5/8” thick!

Then there’s the 9” wide issue.

Almost all aluminum (and steel) rims are 8.25” wide. Finding a set of used, affordable matching 9” wide rims takes a lot of searching.

Hah! This morning, found a set of 4 or 6 white steel Accurides. 9x22.5 ”reconditioned” 5 vent holes.
I assume they were rusty and were cleaned up & repainted.
More info forthcoming…..

Here’s what $100 per wheel buys today.

Best price I could find new was $318 + tax.
I never knew how much heavier and heavier built a 9” wheel was compared to an 8.25” wheel. These 9” wheels will carry 10,000lbs per wheel. The 8.25” are rated at 7300lbs, which is technically, too light for my 30,000lb rear axle.

9” is always better than 8.25” (I know, that’s what she said)

Anyways, learning a lot as I go about wheels.

Next, need to find 12.25” front flotation rims with same 5 vent design.

I plan on taking them to the dealer I buy the front floats from and having it all done at once.

Quick update.
Truck is running very strong. I’m really surprised how well this HT570 will scoot.
I decided to replace almost every component in the rear brakes. The old braking system had the old cast shoes and drums was giving me fits (frozen pins, bad springs, high spots on drums, etc). New drums $130 a piece.
So I also got new shoes. Got rid of the cast shoes for stamped typical shoes so they won’t freeze-up or rust as bad as the cast, new slacks and new cans.
Front brakes are good.

Also fixed a couple lights and some other small items.

Then it’s over to the tire shop to swap out the rusty rims for the white ones.

Then my bank account needs to take a rest. Actually needs replenishment.

Have you ever checked CL (Springfield Ohio) for spare parts?

IH has always notoriously had a problem with parts disappearing from the plants….

Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not a surplus around Springfield!
